Didn't die often for me...

Use Lightning (RAV, COM, MED), Fang (COM, SEN, SAB) and Hope (RAV, MED, SYN) as your default setup. For tough fights use a SEN and keep MED/SEN/MED as a backup for really tough spots. In tougher fights, use COM/SEN/RAV for building some starting Stagger and switch to RAV/SEN/RAV after a bit until you Stagger, then switch to RAV/COM/RAV for Launch and massive damage :)

Hope doesn't die for me... usually I don't use him tho, unless it's for really hard battles near the end of the game
throughout the beginning to middle-end usually it's fang lightning and vanille, with setups like RAV SYN SYN, COM COM SYN, COM RAV RAV, and then COM RAV MED. but with hope, you need evened odds... MED SYN SAB, and probably protection MED SEN SYN
delta attack is pro for later on, cuz sentinel decreases damage for players around him/her too. very useful.

I only use Hope when there are a lot of weaker enemies in a map.  Using him with a SEN (Fang or Snow) and another medic (because I taught him raise late in the game) makes killing a lot of weak enemies easy.  His area attacks are potent.

Even then though, he still died easy.  I found that instead of boosting HP, I make it so he has multiple "eater" skills.  He stays alive longer that way.

A friend of mine, much further ahead than I am, uses Fang, Vanille and Sazh. You cover all the bases really

honestly, i bought this game just for the sake of getting something that looked pretty(along with a new hdtv to play it on)....and now im on my 3rd play-through.  Even with the endgame cp/gil grindfest and trying to get maxed out weapons/accessories there is still something strangely fun about it... maybe its killing giant dinosaurs repeatedly....or watching that one behemoth run in circles on gran pulse...dunno...

I have a huge list of ps3 games I want to get, but I need a better TV first, and am too broke to get an HD tv :(.  Current TV I have sucks so much I can't read any of the text and I get massive headaches.   So I have been holding off on FFXIII until I have a decent TV to play it on, along with a whole list of games :P

I don't know about anyone else here but I don't think I've ever been more stoked for a game... ever.

That is not true for me.  In fact I don't have overly high hopes for the game - so much I don't feel its worth it to pay full brand new game price for it.  I will either pick it up second hand, or hopefully by the time I can afford an HDTV the retail price will have dropped.

Just remember,  before you criticize someone, walk a mile in there shoes.  That way you are a mile away and have their shoes. :P

i agree that it's crap, but not because it's linear
but because it fails on all aspects other than graphics
storyline, chars, script are all bad, annoying and repetitive
battle system is random, often confused by people with hard which it's not
and it has indeed been dumbed down

it's by far the worst final fantasy so far, average at best

If you want a review on the game that I agree with 100% and that any non-bias person would then give it a read.

So I've been playing through FFXIII with varied thoughts on the game as to new features and so on, and to the most part, the majority of them are okay.

Sure it doesn't feel like traditional FF's but it's always nice to play around with new things... the one and only thing that I cannot stand in the slightest is the fact that if the party leader dies... game over?

Seriously, I think that the rest of the characters are smart enough to throw a phoenix down... even if there was a 10 second timer before game over etc.

Hmm... I still have a hell of a lot to play so I can't judge the game as a whole but overall so far it's visually stunning and although some mechanics could do with some tweaking overall it's okay.

I think that the other buttons would've been cool. I mean it's just A and the occasional P. shift

If they allowed you to map things to triggers it would win

i don't know who this was aimed at

but in my opinion 10-2 was average at best as well, but still slightly better than FF13
and it definitely has more replay value as well; i will never play through ff13 again, ever
the chars and script were way too annoying and what little substance the story did have was drawn out waaay too much
i only finished it because it's a final fantasy, had it not had this name i wouldn't have played more than a few hours probably
which is what happened when i played the last remnant, that was a big failure

i do hope squarenix will not keep going on this path, last remnant was a bad game and ff13 average at best
there's a few other games they've released as well and none of them have been very successful either
with all the hype about ff13 and people not looking past the graphics it doesn't look good for their future releases

Yeah, on the whole XII was a bit of a let down too. X-2 on the other hand was god-awful! Some things in it were nice, but overall I didn't like the feel for it.

XIII is the only final fantasy that I have put down whilst playing something else as well, the rest I have played through continuously until completed, but I don't feel the need to with this... so far the only thing it has going for it is that it is perhaps the most visually stunning game I have ever played.

I grow tired of slugging away on a boss or even random mob for ages and getting their health down to about 1% only to have the monster out of nowhere turn his focus to the main character, unleash a shitstorm on him/her and annihilate the entire party by killing the leader in one hit.
