Final Fantasy 13, the day has finally come

<< < (17/34) > >>

forsaken:
I'm well into the game now, Chapter 11, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the battle system. My thumb literally hurts because all I'm doing is pressing X (auto-whatever). Constantly just pressing that button, because it's so boring that I can't pay attention all the time... Sure I gotta change paradigms, but if a tough boss fight takes more than 15 minutes and you're constantly just pressing X it is kinda tiresome...

The storyline is alright. I have to say I got more into it in previous FFs.

Graphics and Animation still don't cease to astound me. The maps, locations, character and monster models are all stunning. SE have done a bang-up job in this department. Now I know they're known for delivering on this end anyway, but the PS3 is where it's at :) The last graphical jump of this magnitude was probably VI -> VII

I'm gonna finish the game before I give it a final verdict, but for now I can say that I was hoping for slightly more by this point in the game...

( I wish I could make it flashing in 5 different colors. )

I've been watching someone else play it (FF series really lost me with X - that's the last one I personally bought ... and never played. )    From my viewpoint - I see:  all graphics, not much more.   I've also heard whining bout the battle system ( with 12 being superior - and from my viewpoint, yeah, it did look better ....... )

But come to think of it - couldn't you play most FF with a coffee can resting on one of your controller's buttons ( or maybe even a piece of tape - if you're not "mechanically inclined". )

In regard to the movie aspect - I'm surprised - with next gen systems with such amazing graphics ... that Square & other devs still feel the need to make cutscenes like that.   You'd think there would be more interactive dialog ... say ... like Fallout 3 had ( just regular old game sprites - very high res & detailed of course - and you interact with them in the "cutscene".  Better done, though.  )

To me it's looking like an all around decent game - I'd give it a 7/10.

Oh.   Another gripe of mine - while your characters have decent outfits - the townspeople I've seen are disgusting.

I mean, come on - how creative is it to just skin them all with underwear?   Pathetic.

Ok - I got sick of hearing about it and went for some more in-depth personal experience with this shit.

Emphasis on the shit.

Graphics: 10/10
Sound: 10/10
Gameplay: 0/10
Storyline: ... something/10
Battle system: 0/10
Gameplay Depth: 2/10  ( I guess the characters give this game some "depth". )
Replay Value: 0/10
Auto-battle system:  -1000000000/10  ( omg wtf?   I'm seeing bosses downed with your eyes closed - LITERALLY!   No, really - try it.  Fight a boss with your eyes closed.   You'll win. )

Is this a Final Fantasy?  No.
Is this an RPG?   No.
Is this something I want to pay for?  No.
Is this a game?  No.
Is playing 1 character in a Final Fantasy game fun?  No.
Does this suck dick?  Yes.

My Revised score:  5/10.   I guess because they worked one hell of a long time on the graphics and sound.   Other than that - this game sucks a hairy nutsack.   Compared to twelve, this is bukakke - in your face - and you're not enjoying it.

Further simplification of this series from the heyday of what it was ( think: 6/7/8 ) to now - is just smashing it for the old core.

I guess for some people, hey - a "well structured linear game" may be their cup of tea.

For those of us who like to be challenged by their games ... rather than playing a slide puzzle where you always win - this just slaughters the series.

FF was complex in the past.   Now it's Myst - with improved graphics, and bonus T&A (+1) - or what was that linear game where everything was right-wrong back in the late 90s - that had great graphics .... I forget.  Something with a speedboat and guns.   It looked good, was like a "choose your path" book - and pretty much a play it once and toss it game.

I'm glad as fuck that I didn't buy this shit.   The FF series is dead to me.  Glad there's stuff like Fallout coming back out of the woodwork to save us RPG folks who enjoy a complex game with a rich storyline & many options ... to have a load of fun.

It gets better as you go along and it does feel like a final fantasy game. Its not the best. I think the last truly good FF game was 9.

Nikran:
hmm, alot of negative comments about 13. ah, back when it was still in production i had such high hopes. I'll still probably get it and as long as i enjoy it to some degree then it's not a waste.
