GIGADUNK!
( I wish I could make it flashing in 5 different colors. )
I've been watching someone else play it (FF series really lost me with X - that's the last one I personally bought ... and never played. ) From my viewpoint - I see: all graphics, not much more. I've also heard whining bout the battle system ( with 12 being superior - and from my viewpoint, yeah, it did look better ....... )
But come to think of it - couldn't you play most FF with a coffee can resting on one of your controller's buttons ( or maybe even a piece of tape - if you're not "mechanically inclined". )
In regard to the movie aspect - I'm surprised - with next gen systems with such amazing graphics ... that Square & other devs still feel the need to make cutscenes like that. You'd think there would be more interactive dialog ... say ... like Fallout 3 had ( just regular old game sprites - very high res & detailed of course - and you interact with them in the "cutscene". Better done, though. )
To me it's looking like an all around decent game - I'd give it a 7/10.
Oh. Another gripe of mine - while your characters have decent outfits - the townspeople I've seen are disgusting.
I mean, come on - how creative is it to just skin them all with underwear? Pathetic.

Ok - I got sick of hearing about it and went for some more in-depth personal experience with this shit.
Emphasis on the shit.
Graphics: 10/10
Sound: 10/10
Gameplay: 0/10
Storyline: ... something/10
Battle system: 0/10
Gameplay Depth: 2/10 ( I guess the characters give this game some "depth". )
Replay Value: 0/10
Auto-battle system: -1000000000/10 ( omg wtf? I'm seeing bosses downed with your eyes closed - LITERALLY! No, really - try it. Fight a boss with your eyes closed. You'll win. )
Is this a Final Fantasy? No.
Is this an RPG? No.
Is this something I want to pay for? No.
Is this a game? No.
Is playing 1 character in a Final Fantasy game fun? No.
Does this suck dick? Yes.
My Revised score: 5/10. I guess because they worked one hell of a long time on the graphics and sound. Other than that - this game sucks a hairy nutsack. Compared to twelve, this is bukakke - in your face - and you're not enjoying it.
Further simplification of this series from the heyday of what it was ( think: 6/7/8 ) to now - is just smashing it for the old core.
I guess for some people, hey - a "well structured linear game" may be their cup of tea.
For those of us who like to be challenged by their games ... rather than playing a slide puzzle where you always win - this just slaughters the series.
FF was complex in the past. Now it's Myst - with improved graphics, and bonus T&A (+1) - or what was that linear game where everything was right-wrong back in the late 90s - that had great graphics .... I forget. Something with a speedboat and guns. It looked good, was like a "choose your path" book - and pretty much a play it once and toss it game.
I'm glad as fuck that I didn't buy this shit. The FF series is dead to me. Glad there's stuff like Fallout coming back out of the woodwork to save us RPG folks who enjoy a complex game with a rich storyline & many options ... to have a load of fun.

I dont know what game these nay sayers are playing but I loved 13. The game is very linear. but to me, linear is better.
The characters and story were simply amazing. The cast is probably the best in the series period. They are much more human, and have far more growth then any of the other series.
The battle system is a little redundant until the later stages of the game. Then things get quite challenging which easily makes up for the tediousness of the first parts of the game.
My only grip is that there isn't enough back story. I know they intended to give you way more info on pulse and the back story, but it had to all be cut from the game due to time constraints. but I can live with that. They have hinted that if the game sells really well they might be making a sequel, so I bet we will get to see all of that back story they cut in it.
Anyway, my final score is 9.5/10.
Its the best jrpg of the new gen. It might not be as good as some of the classics, but compared to the new jrpgs its amazing.

Yeah ... that's my opinion too. I'm someone who didn't like 8 much - but it grew on me later. The best out of the post FF9 games, imo, is 12.
I was a hardcore fan of the series - and the company. They could do no wrong, they never had a bad game in my books - then the PS2 came out with FFX ( I thought X2 was better than X - and X2 was HORRIBLE. ) - and it all went downhill from there.
10 was abysmal. This new one isn't all that great either. I really just can not get past only controlling one character. Is this really the way it is thru the whole entire game?
That's sad.
nstgc:
I'm glad I'm not the only person who hated 10. X-2 is good if you can look past the title. If you forget you are suppose to be playing a FF game, its okay.
As for playing only one character at a time, yes, its like that throughout the game, however who that one person is becomes your option once you get to chapter 10. Also, the mindless button mashing becomes somewhat less mindless. There is a strategy to each battle. If you choose the right strategy and execute it properly, the battles are very easy. If you don't have that strategy, later on, you will get a shitty rating and possibly die. The battle system is quite different from any other FF game, but now that its not just button mashing its not bad. I still don't like it, and think the old system, the one used in just about every FF game that doesn't have tactics in the title, is better. However, I'm sure the next one (and you know there will be a "next one") will surely not have this system.
Actually in terms of combat, my favorite system was the one in FF X, even though its my least favorite game over all. WHile 8 is my favorite game among them, the junction system was utter crap. "look at me, I can hit for max damage at level 20 and am immune to all status effects".
Jesta23:
none of us older people will like any of the new gen games better then 6 7 8 and 9.
Thats part of growing old. But for a new gen game, this is the best of the series.
