Going to study in Japan for a year

'Ello. I'm your avarage Swedish 20 year old guy and I'm going to study Japanese for one year at ISI-Chukyo in Gifu-city and I've got a few questions for anyone who want's to make a reply on the topic  :)

Firstly: Anyone know anyone in Gifu-city that might want to take a Swede for a stroll around the city and maybe point out a few sights and/or point the way to the nearest pub?  ;D

Secondly: I've made myself a fairly good list on what to bring, but what would make my soon to be Japanese friends (and everyone else at the school ofc) happy if I brought from home? Something very Swedish? Just some random crap from home to show? What do you think?

Thirdly: I'm insanly scared of hights and planes. And now I'm going on a 19h trip straight across the world, any tips to make some of my anxiety go away? The thought of actually landing in Japan makes the whole thing alot easier but there are still some lingering fear of impending death to be dealt with.

Cypher:
I'll write about the third: I have a fear of planes though maybe not as insane, anyway I also got into a situation where I'd be in a long distance flight, a few things helped: convincing myself the objective of the journey is worth it, and watching in-flight movies/sleeping(no idea how I managed to sleep).

Slysoft:
Bring some sweedish fish? Everyone likes those.
