Anti-viruse program

I also have used Avast for the past 4 years. I has detected and dealt with the view viruses I have encountered over those 4 years. I would thus recommend it, however I haven't had any hands on experience with any other anti-virus program, so...
Except a program called F-Secure that came with my school laptop. I replaced it with Avast after a year.

Note: if you want avast to scan all files, I believe you need to schedule a system reboot scan. It then scans the drive(s) before windows has fully booted. This way it scans system files before they are in use, which would hamper any direct access to them.
