Is the difference between DVD and Blu-ray?

I have 25 inch 1080p monitor, and yeah, I can tell the difference between 720 and 1080 when I am about a foot away. The 1080 has crisper lines. When I am watching anime, most of the time, I am not that close to the monitor so I do not care if it is 480, 720, or 1080. Even when I am close enough to see, I do not really pay enough attention to care.
I should find my old avi and Real Player files from back when I was 12 and downloading off Kazaa. I remember even then thinking that the quality on them was crap. I could see artifacts. Very obvious ones.

Its not killing your eyesight. If you get to far away from 1080 you lose the detail in the picture and might as well watch lower resolution. If you get to close you start to see pixelation. You are supposed to sit about 1.5 times the diagonal viewing distance of your tv. Any ways I think its something like you shot not sit 5 feet or closer then you start to strain your eyes. Its an old wives tale that you lose your eyesight from sitting to close to a tv. Think how close you sit to a computer monitor. started with 10" monitors now most people run 20"+ and still sit the same distance.

Sitting to close may mess with youre eyesight. Youll get "short-sighted"(dunno what the word is in english) in the long run.

You don't really need to see them side by side. So far, the BlueRay rips i've watched are sharp enough for you to clearly see the pores on their skin. That has become my standard for 1080p ;D You can actually see the laugh lines and crows feet. :D
