Details about ratio

I have searched the wiki and the forum, but I must not be doing it correctly... Please forgive my ignorance.

How many gigs free do you get when you start? Do you have to keep a ratio of 1:1 to not get warned?

I started downloaded Conan: Boy of the Future thinking I would be able to get most of it done, and seed while I'm doing it, but it seems to me that after 300 ish Mbs in, I'm warned, for I can't download anything...

So my last question: do I have to upload 300 ish Mbs to stop being warned? (So I'll have to grab a movie from another tracker and upload it?)
If I had known that I couldn't download anything at all, I would have started with freeleech, and now that I can't freeleech, I'm in a slight rut... It's not very new-user friendly.

I just couldn't find any detailed info on what the exact ratio is, and what kinda leverage you give new members.

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The 300mb limit before warning does sound a bit low, but I don't see you being warned at the moment anyway.

My apologies, I may have over-reacted. It does seem like I can download still -- you can be sure I'll seed some freeleech first!

It just looked like it, cause for 10 minutes my download speed went from 600 Kb/s to zero, and it my ISP wasn't to fault, for I was still browsing the web at full blast :)

Thanks alot, and look forward to being here! I can't wait to get all the Ghibli films in high quality :D

new users have a grace period of around 20-25GB - only after you download at least that amount you will get warned for a bad ratio - before that point it your ratio doesn't matter.
