new member & ratio
« on: March 19, 2010, 11:58:51 PM »
Hi, Im completely new and really dont have anything to upload except for what I've downloaded...

I've downloaded two osts but one of them have 14 seeds 0 peers, the other 9 seeds 5 peers but nobody is ever downloading off me...so do i just keep on downloading until i cant and no way to get back in? whats my limit on this new account? i use utorrent 2.0

I have alot of other files but i didnt used to keep any of the torrent files and god knows where I got them from,

and i didnt actually download alot of them myself anyway, most are from a friend.

is there someway for me to upload these files? or someway to keep myself not locked out of downloads?

yes i've read the FAQ and doesnt seem to say much except find old torrent file or adopt a torrent or submit new for approval...i seriously cant see how viable this will be for me...

old torrent files not an option, adopt, hmm...reading from the description i have to put in, i have no idea and apparently alot of requests get rejected anyway ="=

submit new for approval...i doubt i have any and dont really know what i have to be aware of and need to do etc...

could someone tell me what I could be doing?? would the only way be finding some really popular torrent and just downloading it for the sack of been able to upload???

that post gives this instruction...

i dont have the torrent file as i said before ="=

Open the .torrent file in uTorrent, but do not start it yet (uncheck  the "Start Torrent" checkbox). [Image:Add Torrent dialog window in uTorrent (with "Start Torrent" unchecked).]

Download the .torrent file from BakaBT. Use that torrent to seed the files you have downloaded from elsewhere.

... I'd have thought:
Download the .torrent file from BakaBT. Use that torrent to seed the files you have downloaded from elsewhere.
... was obvious, but apparently people need everything spelled out for them.

yes but you'd have to have exactly the same file etc...and i really dont have much knowledge about torrents so I wouldnt know if they would just work...

but anyway...how i have another problem - nobody downloads off me for whatever reason...

im using utorrent 2.0 there is the green icon at the bottom of the screen saying my network is fine...but the uploads is just ridiculous...its just either 0 of less than 10kb/s...

most of torrents is because of few peers - fair enough...but this one has 21 seeds 50 peers and only 1 peer is downloading off me at approx 5-6kb/s

whats wrong? is there something i can do to improve?

depends on the torrent - there are some torrents around that appear to have a high number of leechers that are in fact only partial seeders.

Personally, when I was new, I had luck with these three methods:

1. Download a couple of Bonus torrents (or 10 if you can) and just squat on them to get some points for ratio
(Be careful not to download one that will no longer be a bonus torrent once you begin to seed;  I recommend 4 seeders or less for this)

2. Keep an eye on the new torrents that are popping up, or even the new offers that look likely to be accepted.  Then go out and try to dl these same torrents, or even parts of them, from other trackers, like the fansub group itself, animesuki or even pirate bay.  Once you've got a few files, jump in the seed pool and seed only; it's a good way to ensure plenty of leechers, as the new ones are usually in demand.

3. If you've got the space to spare, download some HD freeleech torrents from here; You can even get by with only downloading a couple episodes of a 26+ episode epic at first.  Pick one that has a good sized leecher pool, and you'll likely get some downloads.  at the very least, you won't have hurt your ration in the meantime.

I hope this helps.
These methods got me through most of a year, until I made it to freeleech period, and then went nuts.
It requires a little patience, but it pays off.
And it has the added bonus of not feeling sketchy...

Railgun just finished, I'm assuming it'd get a lot of downloaders. Irc or direct download sites don't require seeding back, so they're a good way to acquire files for BBT seeding purposes.

In my view, the best source in order to obtain material for the new torrents are the IRC channels of the fansubbers. Look at the new torrents that have a lot of peers, see what group it is, find their channel and site on AniDB, and join the channel of which most are on Rizon(I recommend MIRC as an IRC client) and download off the XDCC bots (easiest command is "/msg botname xdcc list"  , bots will usually respond to that with a link to a packlist which will give the necessary commands to download), which has the added benefit of being very fast.

Once you have all the files, just download the torrent from BakaBT and point the download location to where you have the files saved.

I agree, Railgun seems like a prime example.  Keep an eye on which versions are being offered and likely to be accepted, and then try to get a jump on those files.  If you have bandwidth and HD space to spare, just download all the versions, and delete what you don't want later.
And yes, while IRC or DDL sites are by far the best, this can be done with nothing but public torrents as well;  I'm shamefully still completely ignorant of all things IRC, but managed to do this anyway (although I did pull a lot of OSTs from DDL sites early on).

You can also sometimes acquire files for bonus torrents in this manner as well;  For example, I got a lot of my initial files from Central Anime trackers (mostly Yamato), and then switched them over to the BakaBT torrent pool and watched the bonus points roll in.

there's also a link somewhere for the torrents on isohunt that are being shared with public trackers. just download from there and then upload here.
