FFVII PS3 Remake - Yay or Nay?

--- Quote from: Yoichi Wada via Kotaku ---"Right now we don't have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII," Wada said. "We're going to explore the possibility - whether or not we're going to do it, if we're going to do it, and the platform."

Yes, I'll take a FFVII as long as I don't need to buy a PS3 for it.

They've actually mentioned the exact same thing quite long ago (in recent times), but I can't recall where to look for that. On a related note...
--- Quote from: Tech Digest ---You both worked on Final Fantasy VII, a game very close to my heart! There are always rumours of a possible Final Fantasy VII remake, but would you personally like to see it happen? Do you think a remake is even necessary?
YK: IF it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare a Final Fantasy VII remake within a year, we'd very much like a go at it! But even Final Fantasy XIII has taken over three and a half years to create. If we were to recreate final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we'd imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together! So it's looking pretty unrealistic! But if any such situation came about by any remote chance, then yes, we'd do it!

Edit
Apparently, it wasn't the original source of the Kotaku article (as I stated earlier), but fairly related anyhow. I didn't read their source article completely before posting, and it looked like they had taken it from another site without posting any source. I find it a bit weird that they post something like that before the actual interview, though.
Sion4000:
YES!!!!
A remake with better graphics, Voice acting, and a better combat system would be so awesome!
sdedalus83:
No, God no. Why don't they put some super team together to create a true successor to Crono Trigger? Not a remake, not a sequel, not even a spiritual successor, just something that breaks the mold and shocks the gaming world in the same way CT did.
And will somebody please tell Squeenix to cut the "Game is too big" and "We'll need 2 50 gig BD discs just to do it" crap? I didn't see Bethesda have any problems creating one hell of a massive world with Fallout 3. And everybody outside of Japan has long since learned how to manage texture and audio file sizes without things ballooning out of control.
Tease and delay, tease and delay - a truly magnificent tactic for marketing to a captive audience. When they do release an FFVII remake, people will buy it at a record pace no matter how much effort they put into it, so all this BS about it being too big is just chum to get the water boiling.
fohfoh:
There's a lot of other older games that probably could do with a remake.
Chrono Trigger is already one that has been mentioned, but seriously, there's a lot of other candidates.
I seriously only see this issue becoming a 2x50GB disc game if it's turned into a 1080p galore game with enough extra cut scenes to rival MGS4.
Xtras:
I indeed say yay. So long as they keep the story roughly intact, they can improve anything they think needs improving and I'd love it.
If I could make a request though, I'd ask that they replace the turn based system with something more like what Kingdom Hearts 2 has.
