Sentai Filmworks Announces Clannad English Dub

I'm pretty interested to see this, although part of the magic of Clannad was the amazing voice acting. I can't help feeling they'll leave out things like honorifics, which come into the character's conversations at times. If they screw it I'll be unhappy :(

Has there ever been a dub with honorifics in it? I'm not too familiar with English dubs.

Has there ever been a dub with honorifics in it? I'm not too familiar with English dubs.
These dubs include some, but not necessarily all honorifics:

Ai yori aoshi + Enishi
I My Me Strawberry Eggs
Angelic Layer
Please Twins
Planetes
Welcome to the NHK
Samurai 7
Basilisk
Azumanga Daioh
Ouran High School Host Club
Lucky Star (maybe, can't remember)

A lot of the time, they'll retain some of the most crucial or emblematic honorifics for a series, while dropping the rest. Like they use "Chiyo-chan" in Azumanga, but omit most others.

As for Clannad, the dub director (Steven Foster) is known for liberal and not-so-faithful dubs. These range from outright gag dubs like Super Milk-chan and Ghost Stories to controversially re-written dubs like Generator Gawl and Orphen. But those last two are from ~10 years ago, and it all depends on who's doing the actual scriptwriting. *checks ANN* Turns out Foster's only directing/writing the first 12 episodes; there's a different director and writer on 13-24.

If you're watching dubs then you shouldn't get to complain about honorifics.
take your Dilly Dally Shilly Shally and like it.

When life gives you lemons, you clone those lemons and make super lemons.

The added english voice acting doesn't change your viewing experience in any way if you don't want to use it.

What's the deal with honorifics in dubs. Its a dub, its intended for what ever the language its being dubbed over. Honorifics in English dubs would sound awkward and silly. A good dub is one that localize without changing the plot so it seems natural for what ever audience its reaching out to.

Often in anime the use of certain honorifics is an issue itself.  It just doesn't localize at all.  You'd either have to cut the scenes or do something weird, like making a character use "mr." or "miss" for someone and it just sounds even more wrong.

If character development in a show revolves around honorifics, there are always ways to get around that with English equivalents. There are many options, from title to tone of the voice, using honorifics is just pandering to the weabos who aren't even going to watch the dubs anyways. The point of dubs is to localize the show for the viewing audience, I don't see the point in complaining about honorifics not being added in an anime.

He meant, "the English dub won't affect you unless you choose to listen to it." In fact, please don't listen to it, and spare us your repetitive "psychic future projection" hate rantings.

I just don't understand all the dub haters, a nice dub means I can have a show in the background while I do other things like playing WoW or reading a book.  With subs only I have to constantly read along with the subtitles meaning I can't do anything else with my time.  As a result of this I watch about twice as many dubs as I do subs and my head has yet to explode.
Plus even if you are a crazy hater of dubs there is no way the mere existence of a dub track is going to 'ruin' anything, no one is tying you to a chair and forcing you to watch it.  Just buy the DVD's switch to subtitle mode and enjoy.

Dub haters are whiny little fags,  whining just for the sheer sake of it.
Any legitimate points have long since been killed off by incessantly gay whining.

There, I said it.  Nothing but fanboys.  How the bloody hell does changing an honorific to Mister or Misses  make a scene awkward or "wrong"?   In the English language, we honor and respectfully address someone by addressing them by their appropriate gender title.

There's your "honorifics". Fuck you

I try to optimistic about dubs, but I really don't see this one working out too well... Let's just say that American voice actresses just can't do the whole Japanese high school girl thing. They always sound like they're 35 or something.

Also, Sunohara's English VA needs to be careful to come off as funny and not just obnoxious.
