I'm quite happy that I'll be able to share this anime with my wife now that it's dubbed.  She's not a big fan of subs especially since we watch our anime pretty late at night.

Greg Ayres is playing Sunohara.

Overall I watched the first episode of the Clannad dub and it isn't as bad as I thought, but I won't say its one of the greatest dubs I've ever seen.

I can't quite agree with this comment:

Quote
Let's just say that American voice actresses just can't do the whole Japanese high school girl thing. They always sound like they're 35 or something.

Here in America, at least, by the time you're in high school, your voice is already matured to where it's going to be in 30 years. Fact that Japanese portray high school character voices as younger than they actually are, I would say isn't quite right. Then again I don't know if their voices mature as fast as everyone else's. It's like facial hair and how Japanese don't usually have extreme amounts of facial hair (amongst men) unlike in other places of the world (not sure how much of that is true however).

I think these voices work okay. My problem is how they pronounce "Nagisa". I cringe everytime it's said in the dub, however I can deal with that. As far as dub hating, I dislike the war between dub and sub. Problem is dub haters try so hard to convince others not to watch dub. Why try to convince others to follow your personal preference? Let them decide for themselves if the dub is good or not. I'm neither a dub or sub fan (I'm both fans), I just find whatever comes to me first. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You just gotta let people figure out for themselves if dub is the way they want to go or not.
There's nothing here, because I'm too lazy to put something here.

Where is the dub being streamed?  I would like to see how well the dub compares.

Dub haters are whiny little fags,  whining just for the sheer sake of it.
Any legitimate points have long since been killed off by incessantly gay whining.

There, I said it.  Nothing but fanboys.  How the bloody hell does changing an honorific to Mister or Misses  make a scene awkward or "wrong"?   In the English language, we honor and respectfully address someone by addressing them by their appropriate gender title.

There's your "honorifics". Fuck you
you don't understand why we english dub haters hate it so much, and l will not even consider trying to think about explaining it.

we aint fags, we simply apreciate the original soundtrack, and we simply hate the mere thought of how things are changes from original script, not to mention the horrible sound of not fitting voices to the charatcers that simply make my ears bleed.

at that point l leave the subject.

OMG !

just finished streaming the 1st episode
and it was RUBBISH !!

In my opinion,
Okazaki's voice acting was -probably- the best
but most of the others were as RUBBISH as HELL !

Only wanted to demo it anyways, if I like it enough I will just buy it.

A few minutes and I don't like the voice for Okazaki, but I like Nagisa's.  Also did Nagisa say Sweet Bean Bread in japanese?

I love how people who complain about dubs can't even structure a sentence in English themselves...

Finished the first episode, overall I liked all of the voices (especially Nagisa's and Sunohara's was pretty good too) though Kyou's seems VERY grown up compared to everyone else.  Also as previously mentioned the pronunciation of Nagisa makes me cringe a little.  I don't know how accurate it is, but from what little I can remember from the Japanese first episode it doesn't seem that far off.

Chances are I'll buy both seasons when(if) they get dubbed.  I know I have plenty of friends I would like to show this series to.

Wow, I will agree not every dub is done well but Beck is a prime example where the Dub absolutely makes the series better. The original version makes the main character sing with a lisp. There is no way its better.

Just saw the first couple of scenes...

Tomoya sound so old. It doesn't feel like a high school student...
As for Nagisa, just so cute!

I hope the rest turn out well

A few minutes and I don't like the voice for Okazaki, but I like Nagisa's.  Also did Nagisa say Sweet Bean Bread in japanese?

Yep both in the English and Japanese in the scene where they meet at the hill, she says "Anpan". They couldn't translate that for the english dub because it would take to long to say (not enough time to say "Sweet Bean Bread" in the scene).

Makes sense, but it still was a bit odd.

just finished episode 1...
On second thought, Tomoya's voice wasn't so bad. It's all right.

The stuff I don't like:
1) Kyou sounds too tomboyish. It feels too much. I hope her dere side can still come across
2) Nagisa's parents sound like typical cliche parents. I remember in japanese version they're more of young, even childish, adults
3) The way they say Nagisa. i don't like the strong intonation. It wasn't like that in the originally

I wish there were more amazing dubs outthere.I actually dont mind watching shows
in english as long as the cast is good.Ranma is a great dub(although the japanese cast is killer),
Tank Police i actually prefer to watch in english. The Macross Plus dub was good.
Surprisingly the Marmalade Boy dub was excellent to.
SO there are great dubs out there just lots of really shitty ones too.

I'm actually gonna continue watching the dub to see how they improve over time. We all know that the first few episodes are murder for english dubs until they finally get in the groove of where they want to be with the voices. So I'mma continue and see if any changes (small or big) are made to improve some of the voices.

It's definitely not a bad dub, not the greatest but since its Sentai's first, it's a good start.

Seriously, if this is their first, then I can't wait to see how much they can improve later down the road.
