I think HiddenJumper was explaining how he rationalized the clothes getting ripped off... for no reason. I don't try to rationalize it. I just go with the flow.  8)

and i agree its obvious fanservice which is what the entire show is based around. If it wasnt it would be something better like sengoku basara or souten kouro or w/e

I saw Ep 01 a couple days ago. It looks amazing and all, but there was no subs so I didnt understand anything haha.
you obviously aren't looking properly, the TT has a few versions already subbed since last week.

as for clothes ripped like paper: uhm, why are we caring about this ? think of it like this : "damn l'm a fighter, my clothes will get ripped in a few places, l'll just wear cheap low grade low durable clothes to save money of buying new ones"

I never felt the "panty shots" in this series (as far as the fights were concerned) were ever really intentional. I felt it was just due to scraping around on cement and rough terrain that contributed to the ripped clothing. I believe if you think it like that, most of it is tolerable.
my comments were in reference to this. They arent buying cheap shitty clothes its always school uniforms that get destroyed.

Its just plain and simple you get punched in the stomach shirt gets torn off in the front. Purely for the function of fan service.

And WTF! 4:3! ratio! This is 2010! Stop giving us fullscreen dammit!
In theory, it's getting a 4:3 broadcast and a 16:9 DVD/BD release, just like the previous two Ikki-Tousen series and other shows like Queen's Blade and Juuden-chan. I don't see the need to say "stop giving us fullscreen," as true fullscreen anime are essentially a thing of the past. Can anyone recall the last time a show was purely made in 4:3 and never got a later 16:9 broadcast or home video version? Excluding kiddy shows and short-format shows (e.g. Chi's New Home), I don't think there's been a new natively-4:3 TV anime since Manabi Straight. And that was a little over three years ago.
