What do you carry round with you?

Techy stuff
- Zoom H4n field recorder
- Spare AA batteries
- Shure SM58 microphone
- Microphone lead (Too short - need a longer one)
- Sennheiser headphones

Mmkay... I'd imagine you want the SM58 for spur-of-the-moment recordings, but the effective range is horrible. Granted, 57/58's are tanks and industry-standard live-recording staples, but can't the Zoom do +48V Phantom? I'd think a condenser would be sooooo much more beneficial to carry around... and maybe a noise filter/gate. Lol.

True, but I don't use the SM58 for recording. I just use the Zoom for that, and that's only for listening back to myself and my ensemble. The SM58 is for live performance. Not the best mic for my style of music, but like you said - it's a tank.
I'm not sure if you're thinking I study recording or sound? Guess again, I barely know how to use my own mixer. xD
