Sonys removal of "Other OS"
Mikan:
I decided to make a nice big post on PSN forums :x bacisally read what i wrote (MikanYui11)
http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Updates/Regarding-the-needed-3-21-update-To-the-complainers/td-p/45475827
Do you agree with me on what im saying or an i off the mark? o.o
vuzedome:
And now we wait for "custom" firmwares from those hackers who have not upgraded and continue to exploit the flaw.
But seriously, I too agree that it is a good decision. But I still hate the slimline.

some of your logic is pretty flawed IMO:
--- Quote ---Infact those complaining "Oh but my ps3 was my computer too, I cant afford a laptop/desktop" What are you doing with a $600 Device? Nowadays you can pick up a decent laptop for $479 (Gateway NV series is a start) or try craigslist.
--- End quote ---
why just have a computer for $500 when you can have a computer and a gaming system for $600? If you think of it that way then you basically spent $100 for a console (or $100 for a computer). seems like a good deal to me
--- Quote --- - Both Slim & Fat models are now on an equal field, meaning people wont be buying used models of the original line-up, thus boosting sales of the currently available Slimlines. (when a unit is sold used in any store *gamestop* as an example the company makes 0 profit)
--- End quote ---
if someone is going to buy a 60GB used then chances are they will still buy a slim used, still no profit for Sony.
--- Quote ---Bringing back the console to what it was originally meant for, basically now we only have the options to play games on it, its a giant psp we cant carry in our pockets thus boosting game sales.
--- End quote ---
the PS3 was originally meant to be a all-in-one multimedia device, and now it is all-in-one-minus-one.
Even worse this move will spurn modders to get off their lazy butts and actually start figuring out a way to get custom firmware running (which according to a friend of mine, they already have). If anything this move decreased how long it will take to hack the machine, rather than increase it.
I am not one of those people who go on "capslock rampages", but I do think this is a bad move by Sony that will do nothing but Anger the people who do use the feature.
Note: I do have Yellow Dog installed on my ps3, and I was using it to learn how to develop for a cell processor (hard as fuck btw). I am currently using a tool to bypass the update check when connecting to the internet. I'll probably eventually download the update, but for now I have no reason to.
Mikan:
You can bypass update check by manually configuring your Primary/Secondary DNS to this I.P : 67.202.81.137 and still get on PSN, etc. for those who dont want to update I wouldn't have if I found this out sooner.

I'm using something that basically does the same thing, but instead uses a proxy.
