I disagree, Tiffanys. I think the anime was well thought out enough that it doesn't have huge loop holes if you're paying attention. The situation you propose would be extremely suspicious... I mean everyone working on the Kira case but him and his girlfriend die? His goal isn't to be a mass murderer, his goal is to purify the world as much as possible, and he only decided that some good people would have to die for a better world. I think it makes sense that he wouldn't want people to know who he is and thus he wouldn't have to kill legions of people who hate him, or worry about being stabbed in his sleep. In any case, you need to figure out when Misa made the second deal... I remember there being a lot of stipulations, and that we were never asked to suspend our disbelief except to accept that a Death Note and Death Gods exist. That was what made the series such a pleasure... It wasn't unfair to an audience that wanted to figure things out before the show revealed them.
