Subtitle problem on burned DVD
« on: April 04, 2010, 05:42:08 AM »
Hey All,

So here is my issue. I'm using Convert X to DVD to encode and burn GENIUS PARTY BEYOND to dvd. Everything is wonderful except for some reason the subtitles are traveling just outside the borders of the video image. I suspect it's because of a setting in the SUBTITLE TEXT STYLE EDITOR. http://bakabt.me/145591-genius-party-beyond-dvd-h264-ac3-bss.html

The (genius party beyond) video on bakabt is 720x480 which I have set in Convert X to DVD:

But in the SUBTITLE TEXT STYLE EDITOR the PAL equivalent is the default? Can I change this or am I reading this wrong?

This is an artists dramatic interpretation of what's happening to the subtitles when I play the burned DVD on my player.

Lastly, is there a chance that I have to convert the soft subs to .SRT because Convert X to DVD, just doesn't like soft subs?

If so, can someone give me the best way to go about this, as I know very little about this stuff.

Thanks so much!

You need to change settings of margin (borders of text field) or better download the "real" DVD.
Send me PM for links.

I don't see why PAL/NTSC makes a difference with the subtitles. I'm assuming the image you posted accurately represents your problem, that subtitles go of the horizontal edges of the screen. However, PAL and NTSC videos have the same width in pixels and only differ in height.

Unless one of them uses rectangular pixels (I dunno jack about these, really. Lived in PAL territory all my life so far.), in which case you can ignore my post, I don't see the relevance of PAL/NTSC here.

Yeah, I thought the PAL/NTSC thing was most likely not the problem for exactly the same reason you've mentioned Southrop.

I did a quick reburn after adjusting the subtitle margins and still no luck.

So I watched the burned copy on my desktop and *VOILA*, I can see the issue now. For some reason my dvd player is actually cropping the letterbox on all four sides, thus hiding a bit of the subtitles off screen and chopping the letterbox.

I will have to play with the video resize method under the video processing tab. I had used letterbox because it is the recommended setting, but my DVD isn't reading it correctly. Weird.
