does "Fafner" gets good in later episodes?
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:01:06 PM »
I'm in the process of watching Fafner and I'm writing this just after watching episode 8, and I lost almost every interest in finishing it.

From the character design (no I didn't watch Gundom) to the pink jump suits to the Saturday morning cartoon like laser guns.

It just didn't cut for me somehow and I'm usually really patient when it comes to watching Anime, but the characters are SO FRIGGIN ANNOYING (I'm looking at you Soshi)

So I'm just wondering if it's worth watching, I mean finishing it.

No spoilers please  ;)

I watched and finished it, and found it rather refreshing. It has a fair amount of similarities to Neon Genesis Evangelion and RahXephon, so if you've seen those, you might have a better basis to judge it on.

I watched both Eva and Xephon but Fafner didn't really got me hooked up from the first episode, all the way to episode eight actually :D

But I think I'm gonna finish it after all ;)

I don't think it gets much better. The Right of Left OVA is a lot better imo.

Rah Xephon may have been a clone, it certainly has enough elements in common, but I didn't feel that Fafner was a clone of Eva. It has some generic elements that many anime share (giant robots and an alien invasion) but the rest of it was quite different.

no the general using giant robots to defend small territory or all of earth or set group of people from mysterious unknown attacking aliens is a generic series after EVA was monstrous. That really wasnt all that popular until then which is why its an eva clone not because its actually similar to eva. I personally would rather watch fafner over the NGE, since NGE the series imo is a bit overrated

perhaps from a mechanical point of view you could call it a clone, but the plot itself, as well as what happened was not like Eva.

if youde like i can continue to point out more similarities as could probably dozens of other users on these forums. Its an "eva clone" that doesnt mean its bad or good.

I personally like some of the clones more then eva

Sure. What are the differences?

Also, I'm not trying to defend Fafner. I did like Eva. My main complaint was that it was too "monster of the week" when it could have been much more. They needed to put more emphasis on what was going on away from the battles and the shitty lives of the characters (namely Shinji who's name is spelled with the kanji ({}) ). Everything that was in the Red Cross book should have been in the series.

I liked Rah Xephon quite a bit more.
