Japanese characters in subtitles

(1/1)

thesavvymage:
Hey guys, I just recently installed windows 7 64bit.  the first anime i wanted to redownload was minami-ke okaeri, but when the theme comes on and theres japanese characters in the karaoke subtitling they just appear as boxes like these: [][][][].  Not really sure why, cause when I had XP all I did was install CCCP and I was good to go with mpc-hc.  Also, I tried to do a windows update for displaying japanese language, and the update was successful but it doesnt seem to have done anything.

thanks in advance everybody

Enzedder:
Really? I didn't even install CCCP for Win 7. Everything was just there anyway. I have no clue why but all I did was install MPC HC when Win 7 and everything worked fine for me. Sure you have the 64bit version?

thesavvymage:
yup, 100% positive ive got 64 bit.  CCCP comes with 32bit programs so that might be it, and i felt like installing it cause alot of people have said that the windows native h264 decoder is extremely bad

Takeshi:
It's probably a problem with the release having softsubbed karaoke. Which means it's relying on your computer to have such things such as Japanese installed. And the fansub group probably didn't include that in the container itself. I've seen v2's being issued on TT because of the exact same problem you're having.

But as to why it doesn't work when you've already used Windows Update. ???

CCCP's x86 programs and a x64 OS is irrelevant. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium x64. And I only needed to install CCCP to have everything working.

Change subtitle encoding to UTF-8 (Can't remember if MPC-HC has this). Disabling VSFilter under External Filters in Options might help too.
