Why some of us don't watch mainstream anime?
« on: April 11, 2010, 09:22:46 PM »
(Bleach, Naruto, One Piece)
I'm one of them ;D and my reason may not be very rational but everyone around me here even the -not so into anime people- watch Bleach, Naruto and One Piece and I just don't want to watch what everyone watches you know?(I think it's uncool 8)) although I'm thinking about reading the manga.

Just wondering if theres someone out there who don't watch these Anime.

Irrational indeed. "I don't want to breathe since
everyone else is doing it too." ;)

I did watch Bleach and Naruto but gave up both
quite some time ago. Sporadically follow the two
manga's though.

I don't care if its mainstream or vastly unpopular, if i like it....i'll watch it.

I read all 3 mangas, and i watch One Piece, because its awesome.

Naruto and Bleach i only watch when theres no fillers.

I don't watch either because they sux.  :P

But I like Ponyo! The whole movie was so cute, and I thought the story was very ingenuitive.

Oh, and Princess Mononoke!

I want to see the others from Hayao Miyazaki, too.

I watch bleach and Naruto for dumb fun.  Sometimes you need something stupid when you don't want to think...
I have typed these words and you have been forced to read them.  Now you can go cry in the corner if you like :)

i watch if it's good
personally, i think that people who think "i won't watch it because everyone else does" is it's own form of conformity. let's all join the rebels!
i used to watch one piece when i was younger, and now i watch bleach/naruto when it's not in those damn fillers --"

I don't watch them because as they lose focus, I lose interest.

I watched bleach as far as I could, I have all the eps if I ever fill like getting caught up again or just having watching it while doing other things.
Naruto I never got past the 140ish area of the origanal series since the storyline just didn't catch my appeal and the action wasn't what drags me to watch stuff. Only reason I made it that far is my friend was into the action parts.
One Piece, never got into it never started watching it. I thought about giving it a chance, but as I said I am not the big action type of person.

Though I love the people that won't get into it because it is the popular thing, especially if it is a genre they like. I say better to give something a chance then no chance.

Same reason I haven't watch Evangelion 8)

I follow the manga of them. Use to watch Naruto, even all those fillers at the end of the first, but stopped cause it started boring me.
Same with bleach but I watch it now and then to see the fights animated.
Anyone remember the 4kids dub on One Piece?(the rap still haunts my memories) That put me off watching the thing for ages but it's the only one I watch now.

I watch all 3 and read the Naruto manga too. Why? Because along with short series I like watching a longer series as its nice to keep the same characters and just use them in different plots. Watching them grow over time is something that I find enjoyable. Funny, likeable characters, (Not all characters are likeable but usually I find a few), using fantasy powers to achieve their objectives. :D

Considering reading the One Piece and Bleach manga too though but the Naruto manga is like 100 or so chapters ahead so thats why I started reading that one.

Just because one does not "do" as mainstream does, does not mean that one does not "conform" to mainstream. To selectively do the opposite is to follow and conform to mainstream by choosing the lesser known option.

I've seen a bit of OP (read the manga in earlier days but dropped it at like chapter 40... damn manga got too expensive to buy), I follow bleach and naruto on anime and read the manga sporadically.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

Let me tell you how One Piece is going to end.
One piece bathing suit for all the female characters.
Beautiful.

For Naruto, the guy who is telling the story will probably end up in a fatal road accident before the story ends.

Bleach? I remember someone saying that there will be an end soon so I couldn't be bothered.

I don't watch most of those shows because I just don't have time for zillion episode multi-season never going to end shows. Anything else that becomes "main stream" I've probably already watched long before it made it to TV here.

I don't watch series that have indefinite endings. I just lose interest as things become more ridiculous.

There are some series I simply am not interested in, or am unable to finish watching (due to lack of interest, or other reasons). Coincidentally, some of them happen to be mainstream anime.

I simply ignore series that have 100+ episodes, because
a) they take a lot of time to download
b) ... and even more time to watch
c) I don't think there are any ideas and messages that require that much episodes to express
