@ Kyanwan: I bought in at 87. I'm close to tripling my money due to the iPad fad.

But for mkv playback, don't you have to change the encode anyways to play? I think (at least for the S9) you needed to make the video smaller than a certain size for it to play on the S9 even if it was a supported file type.
hence v5
anyway, j3 is out in korea too, and was announced for UK release as well

Not sure, but you still might have to convert your media to the maximum allowed resolution before it can be done. Sort of like, if your pmp allows a max 480 resolution, putting 720 or higher on it, the pmp is unable to play it. Though I can't confirm if it's the same in the V5, I'd assume the same general idea.

I'm looking at getting the Cowon V5 now. My Creative Zen X-Fi2, while decent, isn't really doing what I wanted.

I'm also looking for high quality in-ear headphones. Any particular brand recommendations?

V5 supports native 1280x720 up to 30fps

Hmm... that should be good for pretty much most encodes then. Not bad.

@ Proin: Consider looking up ABI forums. They'll send you in the right direction.

Hoho. So kind of off-topic, but still tech related. We upgraded our internet to a 35/35 mbit line, but the router given to us by verizon is really bad wireless-G crap. So my laptop can't make use of this and torrent lightning fast like I want to. There are three solutions: move to a room with ethernet, wire ethernet to my room, or get a better router. Would do the third, but we have 2-year contract with Verizon TV which requires the coax cable from this specific router. Pretty crap. An ethernet wire to my room would probably be expensive, at least over $150 for drilling holes and that stuff. (Router/connection on opposite side of house one floor below).

Is that connection more important than a media player? O_O
and yes, i know the V5 isn't bad^^ cept that price.

Are you sure it's a router? or a cable modem? You should be able to connect a cable modem to a router.

But I dunno... The V5 for sure is badass, but depends how much you really need a pmp over internet connection.

Did it.

Bought the Cowon V5 32GB, a 32GB SDHC card and a pair of Ultimate Ears 700 Noise Isolating Earphones.

Phew.

I love quasi-impulse shopping ^_^

it's a router. got one ethernet slot left.. and we could wire it to my laptop
because wireless-G doesn't support 35/35, sadly.
i would use it for seeding and downloading 12413 anime at once, probably.

V5 is indeed badass. oh proin, when you get definitely post a review! :D
and congratulations on UE, i approve.

So why can't you swap out the router? Would save you a hell of a lot of money you could push towards a V5.

I concur proin. review!

You could try chaining a Wireless-N router to the modem/router, but it really depends on the G router's ethernet speed. Though at 54Mbps 802.11G ought to be fast enough.

@fohfoh: you can try it, but the P-5 watch (armed with an M16) will shoot you, I'm having it delivered to the ship, not my house in Japan.

I'll definitely write some sort of review.

Wifi G lacks the range of Draft N and the receiving power. Err... I mean laptop wifi cards. Not entirely sure about transmitting of it. But I assume it's about the same idea.

Consider replacing the antenna and maybe updating firmware if possible?

Quick question, V5 has wifi, correct? or no?

Not as far as I can tell, no. However, that's fine by me. If I'm going to do any real downloading I want my laptop with me anyway (greater storage capacity). I don't need a PMP with WiFi.

OK. Sounds about right. I don't recall seeing info about wifi on it (not that I needed it on it). But then again, I looked at it a while back.

Nice purchase again proin. Though personally, if I had such a big pmp, i'd go with some tin cans to go with it instead of in ear. But that's just personal. Great headphones though.

I hate, loathe, despise and various other negative-adjectives over-ear headphones. I find them horribly uncomfortable, unwieldly and difficult to transport (especially in uniform).

Well, a pmp of that calibre, I assume I'm off to the side to use it. That's why. (personal) but for portability, I still have the S9. For which I use in ear.

nice purchase proin let us know how awesome or terrible it is. And dont forget ALWAYS UPDATE THE FIRMWARE on cowon products, but only after reading the posts on a site that does that shit. I like to read the abi posts before updating and let them be my guinea pigs since occasionally cowon makes updates that break some things while fixing something useless

As i said, verizon TV requires the coax cable that only comes with the router.

If the PMP handles well everywhere and doesn't have wifi like I could be bothered. I have not a single time yet used the wifi on my Zune, so why would I need a pmp on a new player to upgrade form the Zune with?
