Seedboxing on a desktop computer
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:48:39 AM »
My seeding desktop computer has performance that listed below.
  • Intel Pentium 4 Hyperthreading 3.0GHz Preskatt(?)
  • 2GB DDR RAM
  • 160GB Default + 1TB External
  • ATI X300
  • 100Mbps LAN(Down=Up=50Mbps)
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise - of course downloaded one.
I am seeding 50+ torrents.

Most seeding torrents -
  • Transformers Collection (238GB) - total up 5.08TB / average up spd 7.1MB/s
  • Summer Wars BDISO x2 (80GB) - total up 5.33TB / average up spd 600KB/s
  • (BakaBT) Transformers 1984 Animated Series - total up 903GB(WTF?) / average up spd 600KB/s
  • (BakaBT) Transformers Robots in Disguise - total up 88GB / average up spd 413KB/s
  • (BakaBT) Transformers Superlink - total up 96.7GB / average up spd 300KB/s
  • (BakaBT) Transformers Headmasters - total up 87.4GB / average up spd 186KB/s
  • Avatar 720p TS by PriSM(4.33GB) - total up 2.41TB / average up spd 350KB/s
  • (BakaBT) Transformers the Movie - total up 8.92GB / average up spd 80KB/s
  • High Kick through the Roof(51.5GB) - total up 2.45TB / average up spd 1.5MB/s

or... screenshot

So - I share all of my files on HTTP server on my server. ( http://computech.wo.tc:1818/%ED%94%84%EB%A1%9C%EA%B7%B8%EB%9E%A8%20%EB%AA%A8%EC%9D%8C%282%29%20%28By%20Kilsan%29/Downloads/ )

The worst thing of that desktop is : Preskatt - Super lot of heat(80 C +), Super big of fan sound(even can hear in bathroom with fan)

How about your seeding computer?

I'm currently seeding off of my fileserver (rather than the vm I used to use), but it's still not a desktop.

ARK Steel 4u chassis
Gigabyte Intel P45 motherboard
2x1 GB Corsair ValueSelect
2.4GHz dual-core Celeron (Wolfdale)
Kick-ass Corsair modular PSU
4x750GB Western Digital Greens
4x1.5TB Samsung EcoGreens

The drives all run at 5400 rpms, which helps keep everything cool.  Those processors are very nice for the price, btw - I've put a similar one in another recent build, and I like them very much, even if they claim to be Celerons.

As with almost all of my machines, Dellingr runs Arch Linux.  You don't get a screenshot because there is nothing to take a screenshot of.

I'm doing most of my torrenting on my NAS because I don't like using the desktop for it (torrenting through CIFS is not a good long-term idea anyway).

500MHz Marvell ARM926 CPU, 32KB L1, 256KB L2
128MB RAM
4x1TB Seagate/WD mix

No screenshots since the thing doesn't even have a video output interface :D

I'll probably get a more powerful home server built sometime next year (eyeing the family desktop's Pentium dual-core), since torrent-hashing, generating parity data, file compression, and generally anything CPU-intensive is painfully slow on it.

I am seeding 50+ torrents.
..

now that's clearly a lie, you have only 31 complete torrent, there is no way you can seed 50 + torrents

my have 111 complete torrents and I am seeding only 62 of them... I have a bad habit of seeding only in ratio sites, and currently haven't downloaded any other torrents then in bakaBT. Well few others music and movie torrents, but that does not count....

and I do not have a different comp/server to seed stuff... I guess that's bad?

From the active torrents listed by the OP, it's quite clear he isn't only seeding BBT torrents; 50+ of those sounds reasonable.

well I did notice that he do not seed only bakaBT torrents, he is not a crappy torrent user as I am, but at the moment he still have only 31 complete torrents...

I use remote desktop, does that count?

Intel Xeon Quad (4x 2.83+ GHz)
8 GB DDR2
Two 750 GB 7,200RPM HDs
200Mbit
Dedi server, 79 torrents, long term seeding on this...will keep till i go bankrupt.

(click to show/hide)

Intel Corei5 (4x 2.66+ GHz)
8 GB DDR3
2x 80 GB Raid0 SSD
100Mbit
Dedi server, This is the one i add all newly accepted torrents to, and delete them as new ones get accepted again
So just some OST's and manga atmo (Go grant them on hold ones eh!  :P)

(click to show/hide)

Intel Q9550 Quad Core 2.83 GHz
8 Gb DDR2
225GB 7,200RPM HD
100Mbit

This is some seedbox i got given the other day...its quite good though because it has unlimited bandwidth on 100Mbit which is quite rare these days.
Just adding loads of Hentai/OVA and near dead xvid torrents to it.

(click to show/hide)

Yea i got money to burn at the minute, guess i spend about 100£ a month on this site to seed stuff...it's not money earned though  ;), so figured i'll just use it to seed shit.

Maybe a little!, but it's money i get from doing something on the side (no effort), so i just end up wasting it on stuff, normally amazon...

I used to do "something on the side" as well.  But I usually reinvested the profits in order to increase dividends exponentially.  :-X

Ugh, the lack of trimquotes in this thread is killing me.

I don't think that those quite count as desktop computers any more, at least in the way intented by the OP.  Granted, the line is a bit fuzzy, but it seems a bit like he meant "those non-seedbox computers".

Seems like I'm not the only one using the old PC for torrenting... The new desktop is reserved for watching/gaming.

Old desktop "seedbox":
Pentium 4 631, 1GB, 8400GS 256MB, 250GB+2x500GB, 100/10 cable

Note: No incoming connections...

I was seeding all of my torrents from my home connection before I got the seedbox.

Dedicated 1TB server on a 100/100 connection. I've only started to use it for bakabt a month or so ago... And it's been upping here at amazing speeds.

There is also another seedbox that is seeding a few torrents from here... Tho it should of been taking offline a few months ago but the hosting company forgot to do so... So pretty much getting a free server on a 100/100 connection with a couple of torrents on it :P
I wonder how long before the realize that it's still online... hmmmmmmmmm

Intel Pentium 4 Hyperthreading 3.0GHz Preskatt(?) -> Intel Pentium 4 w/ HT technology (Hyper-threading) 3.0GHz Prescott* including MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3

May possibly be a Prescott 2M.
