Question about converting formats..
« on: April 17, 2010, 03:40:06 AM »
Hey I just have some questions about uploading, well more like getting it in the format I want.  I have a couple series on dvd that I want to convert to mkv/dual audio (or the best quality possible) but I need a good converting program.  Any suggestions? (I have been on google, a lot lol).  I'm looking for something for free and without being TOO complicated and that is compatible with windows 7 (doesn't have to be though)  Thx in advance ~_^

Do it the right way.
Is it on the DNU list?
If yes, stop.
If no, is it made available already?
If yes, stop.
If no, search for MeGUI and start from there, any other questions related to MeGUI will be answered in its own wiki.

The anime I want to upload is not on the DNU list while it is already offered it is only in the subbed version while mine will have both english and japanese audio.  I looked up MeGui and it's a little....um....con fusing, even with checking on its wiki.  I was hoping for something a lot simpler.  I use to have a converting program for it a long time ago and I would get that one if I could remember the name of it lol.  Anything else I could use?

Handbrake is a really good simple media converter that is actually pretty complex if you go deep. I recommend it for basic conversions unless you're converting for the PSP (PSPVC is best!).

By the way, are you talking about ripping a DVD?

Yes it is a dvd I'm ripping (NANA :).  I'll be checking out handbrake when I'm done here. Btw does anyone know the general size of an episode when converted fron dvd to mkv (keeping both languages) using handbrake?

That would heavily depend on bitrate settings. But if you really want an figure, I'd say somewhere between 250 to 350 MB.

Just take a look at the filesizes of dual-audio fansub releases :)
