Download speed capped
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:43:53 AM »
Alright people here's my problem, since saturday i've been experiencing issues with my uTorrent (and i think it also happens with a loca torrent site i use), anyway the deal is it sounds like my download speed was capped to 10 kb/s, even thou i set it to unlimited it doesn't go farther than 10k, this is pissing me off cuz before Saturday i used to download at normaly 800kb/s-1mb/s.
Plus i can't seem to seed while i download now, when before i could seed while downloading, i now ask of you gentleman, what the hell is goin on here?

Maybe your ISP started throttling torrent traffic?
Download some well seeded torrent from tokyotosho, report back with speed you're getting.
I assume that your connection doesn't have a monthly download cap that you might've exceeded? Other then torrents your browsing/downloading speed is normal?

If you haven't restart your router and see if it helps...

If you haven't, try disabling your firewall temporarily and see if the problem is there

Otherwise, some tips from an earlier post;
If it's your isp...

Do you have encryption on in utorrent?
If not, enable it, and close and restart utorrent.
If you do have it since previously or 'Enabled' doesn't help, select 'Forced' instead, close and restart utorrent again, and see if it helps...

If that doesn't help, go to utorrent advanced settings, find bt.transp_disposition and change it to 10 (default value for utorrent 2.0 is 15). Now it only allows incoming/outcoming utp connections and no tcp ones, limiting the number of those being able to connect to you but also might help circumvent an isp block.

Port might have been blocked, so if you know how to change it, do it, and make sure it's forwarded in your router. Depending on your isp/connection/if any forced proxies, that might or not might be possible though...

Well that could be right about my ISP but if they done it i'm sure they would get flammed so i don't think they would be that stupid, anyway yea i only get the 10 kb/s cap in torrents, in direct download i get between 400 to 800 kb/s, and in Steam download i normaly get 2 mb/s to 5 mb/s and about the Seeded Torrent, well i'm downloading Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai and it's pretty well seeded way to well to just stay at 9 kb/s.

About Blanchimont post, well i honestly duuno where to active the encryption, and disabling the firewall is also a no go.

I have experienced a similar issue in uTorrent v2.1. If nothing else helps, try to install uTorrent v1.8.5.

One small question: Did you upgrade uTorrent over the weekend (since you said that the speed went down on Saturday) or do you use 2.1 already for a longer time now? If the latter holds true, @the others, is it a known issue with 2.1?

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

I was using 2.1 a while ago (to test the Falcon feature) but I didn't experience any specific slowdowns. Well, that's likely due to the fact that I limit my download speed anyway...

There were some problems with stability, but it was over a month ago.

Tried 2.0 or 2.0.1?

I was using 2.0.1.

Last I checked, 2.0.1 isn't whitelisted on BBT.

Hmm, I missed that. Thanks.
At the time he was using 2.0.1, though, it was likely not whitelisted yet.
