Difficulties downloading .torrent files.

(1/2) > >>

LonerPrime:
Hi,
Recently i had to shift my ISP in India cause my last one decided that an 80 GB Fair Usage Policy is fair enough. Unfortunately the ISP i am on right now is more crappy than my last one but still as an upside it is still unlimited. In any case i am pretty sure that the present net provider of mine thinks its uber clever and instead of shaping torrent traffic has decided to block the downloading of .torrent files(ones downloaded via http method before they Que into the torrent client) so it doesnt loose what handful of customers it has left. I confirmed this retarded action with demonoid from where i downloaded the torrent in .txt extension and it got downloaded in a flash. I explored other options like txtor but they dont work on private hosting sites like bakabt.  :'(
So my question is...Is there any other way i can get hold of those torrent files? Thanks in advance.

PS: The connection is quite bad and it takes a while to load pages at the forums too. So please if the question has already been answered before in the forum i would really appreciate a link to the same. My apologies for bothering you folks.

He-he! he! India... cant help myself from giggling.
So.... here's my idea, get someone to zip(7zip,zip,rar,.001,etc) their torrent files and send it to you, but of course removing their own PID from the tracker, when you receive it, unzip and add your own PID to the tracker.
Where is it on the tracker list? It is between "http://tracker.bakabt.com:2710/" and "/announce.php"
Your PID(a.k.a. torrent pass) can be viewed at your tracker settings page(bakabt.me/settings.php).

Consider using a VPN. We might consider a "Download as .TXT" feature as well, depending on how many people actually have this problem.

LonerPrime:
Thank you both for the prompt reply. Even though the suggestion of asking someone to zip me the torrent or using a VPN is viable, yet a bit complicated. Already i am asking friends to download the .torrent files and send em over to me via e-mail but it has it's own drawbacks  :'( I will try to read on VPN setups on Windows 7 but it will take a while before i get it working. Even so i am not sure how long that will take seeming i have been out of touch on networking for a while now. Any other suggestions would also be appreciated. Thank You Once More.

PS: I am glad that a staff member is considering the .txt file download option, though i wouldnt want to push for it just cause i ended up in this mess. But as the IT scenario is, at least in my country, ISPz would do anything and everything to cripple the P2P and anything related to it so having options like these would really be a welcome step.  ;)

Hmm, I just tried to download a torrent file as a .txt file. It worked. I just did "save as" and then added .txt at the end.

This doesn't work?
