What happened to Hanyuu...? (Higurash no naku koro ni (Kai/Rei))(ひぐらしのなく頃に(解・礼))
boxthattalks:
So I was rewatching the entire Higurashi series again, and I noticed something that really bothered me... The fact of the matter is, after Kai (Second Season) and going to Rei (OAV/OVA, Events after the series) I realised Hanyuu disappeared...! I noticed this because after the end of Kai she is visible to everyone, but throughout Rei only Rika can see her... So anybody know what happened...?
Meomix:
For all i know Rika died again causing Hanyuu's hard work to be reset.

Well that's not it because, she was actually just dreaming of a perfect reality without sin (a delusion made by Hanyuu for Rika to realise this is her last and only chance at life)... Then she woke up from the state of unconsciousnes, and Hanyuu told her what happend... Thanks for your input on the situation, but this wouldn't be correct to the storyline....

I think Hanyuu just went back to her non-corporeal form. She only has a finite amount of reserve power (that's why the time before the fateful day kept decreasing with each reset) and so wouldn't be able to stay materialized indefinitely.
She appeared under the guise of being Rika's cousin in the first place, so for her to "transfer out" wouldn't be too suspicious. Also, the rest of them were mostly unaware of the supernatural aspects of the events surrounding them, so it would seem considering Rena's candy analogy.
It is unlikely that Hanyuu could just make them forget her, such a power could have broken the endless cycle a long time before they did.

That seemed abit too realistic to be a dream. Think about it, what if Rika accepted that world? Boom she would "never wake up" and therefore die, staying within the perfect world forever. Then maybe her moral ground wouldn't have been twisted to the point of insanity. Im looking at you Berntaskel.
