Do you think you'd be able to win, if you had a katana, against...

<< < (3/11) > >>

ZeroZero65:
you could win against an elephant if you aimed at the throat.

Tiffanys:
I doubt the throat would result in a win on your part. You might end up killing it eventually, but you're gonna die. To get in that close you have to get past the trunk which is pure muscle and trying to whack you. Beyond that, even if you do slash the throat, it's still going to trample the shit out of you. It would take some time to bleed out.

If you manage to kneecap it, you might have a chance, but that trunk's bigger than you are and its neck is so high that it's really unlikely you could cut into it with much force. I really doubt going for the the throat would result in anything other than death for you... I don't even think the blade's long enough to go through the throat and into the heart, maybe into the skull... but with the density of that along with its muscle and skin density, it'd require the elephant's own weight and power rather than your own, and at the point that an elephant is putting that kind of weight on you, you're already dead.

Oh and about lions, they're literally as big as a horse...

edit: Holy hellllllll... I underestimated the size of a grizzly bear... I must've been thinking of a brown bear. For my explanation, use a brown bear.

You do know that those pics are posed so the bear looks biger than it actually is?  ;)

I think there are better chances against a lion than against a bear. While they weight around the same the strenght difference is just too much.
If a brown bear can kill lion with one swipe which crushes it's skull I don't think I have much of a choice.
Not to mention stopping a chargin bear is pretty futile with a sword. A spear which you can set against ground yes but a sword? I'd like to see someone try.  ;D

I have to say you're pretty positive person since you think about winning against an elephant.  :D

Do not have to think. I would not win against any of these things. I mean even I was a bit trained to handle katana I still would not win. The first two are to big and the third one..darn its a pride of lions there is bunch of huge predators that can easily rip apart not only human but even bigger animals. Pride is like few of these big cats right. If it was one...maybe, but I doubt that as well, they are much more agile then I am and most likely much more smarten when it comes to hunting...
But then with the bear there is a chance that it could slip and just accidentally fall on katana that I would drop while trying to run away, or I would pretend to be dead while holding katana up...but the if I was holding it the bear would most likely squeeze me to death....
It would be much more fun if I would meet a clumsy pride of lions and all of them would trip and fall onto my dropped katana....

Well but I might be able to injure these animals. I could imagine that I could injure them for sure.

The bear is the one you will have the highest chance of survival being as it isn't like the elephant with the thick muscles and hard bone, and it isn't like a pride of lions. Now I will say against a single lion you would have a better chance then a bear in most circumstances. Now being as I put it that way, the likeliness of winning in these fights are still all low.

Fighting against a bear you have one advantage is that as long as it isn't charging you you will more then likely get the first strike. Now if it is charging you there is a going to be major problems with getting that first strike unless you are very  agile. Impaling a charging bar is going to be of no benefit since if you don't kill it with that blow you now lost your sword almost guaranteed and it is now even more enraged. So a charging bear you have very low chance, a bear being aggressive and trying to scare you is when you have the highest chance to win though make a mistake you still can lose easily.

Lions Pride, this is going to be the hardest. One on one you will have high chance as long as you aren't jumped since then it is a battle of wits and not a battle of hunters. Now a lions pride you very little chance since one mistake means six of them on top of you, not to mention this is now a battle of hunters and not a wits. So you take this I would say you have a higher chance of winning against an elephant then a lions pride. Though you still have that chance that you can take them down, you will just have to be very agile and avoid ever getting knocked on the ground.

Now to the elephants, these are very muscular animals and have thing bones on top of that. So you not only are going to have to use lots of wits to disable the animal before going in for the killing blow this is going to also take a fair bit of strength to do. As mentioned before you could go for the knees and disabling the elephant in that way, but you still pose the chance of being crushed. As another person said you could go for the throat but now you also have the trunk to worry about. So now if you were to aim after getting behind the elephant to take out the knees you have a chance at winning if you can get both of those knees out and get to a spot of safety and then come in for your next set of attacks. Though another way would be to aim at taking out that trunk, this would take lots of patience and very good aim. Then after that you would have the open ability to attack from many other areas that weren't open before. The elephant is going to be a hard beast to take out no matter which way you go they all have about the same chance of survival.

Would I try fighting these beasts with a katana willingly hell no, if it happened I would hope for the best but still wouldn't be to sure if I would live or die.
