Wow. You got further than me. I got to 20 and stalled it for when I was majorly bored. Apparently there is never a major storyline so I couldn't handle it any more. I don't know about development but without a major storyline I am unsure how far it could go.

So do I.

Almost every episode is full of laughs and true stories.

And yes, there are some arcs, but they only span about 3 oder 4 episodes.

Gintama is a comedy show most of the time, but sometimes it changes to a fighting show, a horror show or whatever, and I think it does the transitions quite good.

There seems to be some overall plot connecting most of the arcs - but it's not too obvious in most of the episodes.

work in (slow) progress - stalled

Tried watching gintama like 3 times, got trough few eps and dropped every time.
But the manga is great.
Guess the anime is just too slow for me.

I have only seen one episode of the anime so far, but I read the above favorite scene, and I was laughing so much it hurt my sides.  I have read through volume 14 of the manga so far-I have gotten behind.
