[Movie] Mardock Scramble
« on: April 29, 2010, 09:31:55 PM »

Original title: マルドゥック・スクランブル
Romaji title: Marudoukku Sukuramburu
Alternative title: Mardock Scramble

Originally planned by Gonzo as an OVA in 2005 just to be permanently cancelled in 2006, this title is coming back in fall 2010 as three theatrical instances animated by GoHands under the direction of Kudo Susumu (工藤進). The project is based on Ubukata Tou's (冲方丁) science fiction novel series of the same name. In short, the story is about a girl transformed into a living weapon.

Hope someone picks it up as soon as the DVDs are available. Been on my radar since I found info about it on Sub Wire.

The last sentence made me lol. Saikano anyone? xD

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Isn't it ?
Maybe this one will end epically tragic, you don't see many of such shows anymore, there was a time when some shows ended unpleasantly, but not bad, then everything went back "normal".

The game is about showing good stuff, lets see if this delivers.

In regards to all the SaiKano comments:
While there definitely is an element of that,
it is more of a noirish cyberpunk thriller, ala blade runner or battle angel alita

Honestly I cannot wait for the release date of this and redline!
(the only things keeping me interested in anime at the moment)

As far as I know though
Mardock does not have a set dvd/bluray date announced
perhaps their waiting for all "compressions" to get their theatrical releases first?

what? again? pete's sake I nearly broke down in the end of SaiKano. it was one of the very animes that actually managed to make me feel like crap, even if they were awesome.

Grave of the Fireflies and Now and Then, Here and There were the other two.

I thoroughly enjoyed all 3, but for pete's sake, you're not making me watch those two ever again

I actually watched Saikano 3 times, i didn't feel bad on it,the ending was rather "neutral-good" than bad, Firefly grave was sadder, I even cried, Now and Then, Here and There was quite neutral as well, although wit ha bitter pinch there as well, if you want to go watch Sola. *evil smirk* it's a comedy, trust me  8)

the issue is, while series with dramatic or even angst mixed in, you can get a relatively bitter-sweet ending.

in those three, all I felt was emptiness.

Watch a (poorly) eng subbed "complete" version less than an hour ago. For the most part: I liked the world building, character interaction, and strange rogues gallery of villains.

What I didn't like was some of the more explicit sexual stuff- and I don't mean the nudity as much as a specific scene in the beginning and one flashback scene in the middle of the film. Just wish those scenes could have been classier and less exploitative.

Does anyone know if the theatrical version has those scenes edited down some? Or at least does anybody know the big difference between the complete and theatrical versions?

I believe I just watched the theatrical version (could be wrong) and those scenes where definitely intact, I agree that they seem a little unnecessary but they do add some character development. I did think overall it was a awesome movie, can't wait for the rest of the series. How long was the cut you watched? mine was about 1 hour 5 minutes. And any idea if there could be a torrent for it here at baka in the near future?
