Really? I found FEAR surprising but FEAR2 much more so than 1. It wasn't scary at all. I jumped once in FEAR. And that was the part (click to show/hide)Where you fall when the bridge breaks. Plus the "blindness" of when you're running around in the fire at the end of the game. Seriously, you're being chased but you can't see shit coming at you, but you're being hurt by that shit... that gets the adrenaline pumping fast
Dead space had a few jumping moment moreso than just surprise, but nothing huge. Though, you expect more often so that's probably why. One of the smoothest moving scary games ever made though,

RE5 was shit for scariness factor.

RE4 was great but not max scary. Really could have used a bit of an extension at the end of the game to make good use of those scary "monsters".

Silent hill... GG series unless it gets a good overhaul.

This trailer though... confuses me. I expect more of an FPS than horror from this game. Which... isn't totally bad.

But dammit, we need a mindfuck level of horror game. One that will change and create a horror genre like no other. I refuse to play shit games like condemned. It's more emo than I need in my entire life.... "Oh look, a dead bird. Let's collect them."

I had to have jumped at least a dozen times during my first play through of FEAR 1. I guess I'm just a big puss. In fact, I was playing Assassin's Creed 2 the other day and I almost fell outta my chair when an archer that I hadn't noticed started shouting at me for being on the roof. Maybe I need to lay off the caffeine.

They just need to make a sequel or remake of "Eternal Darkness."   Playing that game along at night seriously fucks with you.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Recently, tritons headphones have really helped a lot for game experience. Makes you jump more often in dead space. But still not highly scary.

Heavy rain idea is interesting. Might make a randomized sequence in horror cames for lots of replay value and actual surprise/scariness factor.
