I always consider most people talking fondly about Vanilla and dissing WotLK similar to how a guy will talk about his exgf from 5 years ago right after a bad breakup with a "newer" girlfriend. It's amazing the things you "forget".

While that's true at least to some extent, some aspects about Vanilla were indeed better. One of the best examples I can think of was the community - yeah, there were assholes then and there are assholes now, but I can't help but feel that they're much more numerous these days. Server communities were also closer, and a person could easily become widely known for their exploits, good and bad alike - you developed a reputation quickly. Even in battlgrounds, there'd always be that one opposite faction character that you had a bone to pick with. Now though? It's all random faces. You'd be lucky to run into the same person twice.

People were tons more patient, too. I remember Strat, Scholo, and UBRS runs that would take upwards of an hour and a half to two hours and a number of wipes, yet the members of the group would usually stick around until you finished the instance (unless it really got that unbearably bad). Now? Wipe once and half your group has left, and the other half doesn't know how to get from the graveyard to the instance portal since they leveled the entire way to 80 while sitting queued in Stormwind -_-

I understand this but that's what happens when something becomes "popular" - more people use it. The percentage of assholes is probably about the same still, they're just the only ones that ever speak. Normal folks keep to themselves and their guilds and leave trade chat unless they're looking for something and are willing to sift through that shithole.

I think your BG scenario may be very dependant on your battlegroup. I play on Thrall and at all levels I tend to que up and find myself having a very personal (at least on my side) battle with some jackass I can't get away from.

Once again, with increased numbers typically results in increased idiots and more of a "what have you done for me lately" type deal. I know on Thrall (where my main is) one wipe in a PUG typically is the end of it. It's frustrating and a big reason why I am in some level of support of the new 10/25 man changes that are coming (being an officer in a 10 man guild). I won't feel penalized for not wanting to put up with that bull shit.

I play on Grizzly Hills.....and our guild has 2 10 man ICC teams with a 3rd with others that werent able to fit into the first two.....plus the members from the 1st two teams' alts. and 2 25 man teams comprised of all guild members who want to run. Pugs are generally ridden with low gearscored players who dont know what to do, unless theyre from a reputable guild. Those tend to end up in failure. When Cataclysm comes out, you have another increased raid buff in ICC 10/25 for those who havent already gotten past the 3 wings after the Storming The Citadel wing.

Only thing I'm not liking about Cataclysm is, "LOL LETS MAKE THE GAME SO CASUAL THAT YOU GET THE SAME GEAR IN 10 MANS AS YOU DO IN 25 MANS."

Right now the expansion was extremely easy in general.  Don't bring up the fucking idiotic argument that, "If the game is so easy, why haven't you killed Lich King on 25 heroic?"  Gee, calling the game hard when there were about five or six encounters that were difficult.  Firefigher, Yogg+0, Algalon (not really hard, just had a small time limit), Freya +3, Anub 25 heroic, and Putricide 25 heroic with the appropriate gear level.

Right now with the 15% ICC buff, every hard mode is a fucking JOKE.

Frost was built for more like boss/mob tankings (3 or more) Blood tanks while all possible, its real easy to lose aggro while in blood.

Not really, try reading up on it sometime.  Only thing nice about Frost is that it has great snap agro from KM & Rime procs, plus brings 20% haste if there's no enhancement shaman.
pretty sure he meant presence not specs

I used to think I couldn't live w/o WoW, but these last couple weeks I haven't really played at all with buying a house and moving and painting and all the fun that goes with it - plus getting a Starcraft 2 beta key.  But I don't have a huge desire to play any more.  A few friends I used to log in to play with have stopped playing, and I'm even thinking of dropping my WoW account.

So if you had asked me like 4 or 5 weeks ago what I thought of Cataclysm, I would have been pumped for it.  Now im kinda on the fence.  I mean I don't think I will drop my WoW account yet just because I want to down the lich king atleast once.  But after that I will have to see where I am.

As for the actual counted on Cataclysm idk, I kinda excited for the changes, but scared of how simplistic they are making everything.  I kinda like having my gaming tailored for serious gamers.  When you dumb it down for casual gamers, it starts to ruin the challenge for us serious gamers.  I don't mind pouring over spread sheets, and reading elitest jerks therocrafting for hours to get the scoop on the newest min max's for my class.  But now they will dumb it down some much it wont matter :(.  I'm hoping that Blizzard will still keep some of the hardcore element so they can appeal to both casual and serious gamers, but the trend they are following right now with WotLK doesn't look to promising.

But at this point I am going to see how I feel about WoW after I get back into when I'm done moving.  If i'm still having fun in Oct/Nov I will get Cataclysm.  Come next year tho when I have my new HDTV I may get serious back into console gaming, and my computer will feel very much abandoned.

Just remember,  before you criticize someone, walk a mile in there shoes.  That way you are a mile away and have their shoes. :P

i've pvped and raided at the highest levels before for several years, they can't really offer me anything anymore

After getting my account hacked and Blizz was unable to restore, I kind of gave up on WoW. I've even put FFXI on hold for awhile as I've been playing more console games. But it's possible that I might end up getting Cata, and making a whole new account if its as good as the hype is making it. That or if it comes out before FFXIV...

why would you use your old account since you have probably at least a decent level character and then could make like a DK and start at lvl 55

Because it feels tainted to me. Probably sounds stupid, but I just didn't feel right playing on it after getting my account back (everything gone mind you). I'd rather just start over fresh, new account and everything. Thanks only if I even want to come back when Cata drops.

Switching to Worgan when Cata comes out. 1% extra damage plus 70% speed for 3 seconds, that's insane for tanking, dpsing and PvPing.

Oh, Heroic Leap FTW, until we get nerfed again..

I've recently just quit playing WoW (for the second time) and although some of the features in cataclysm look sexy I don't think I'll be going back.

I simply spend too much time playing it, and in the end find it somewhat boring to a degree :) I'll definately be keeping an eye on the new features though :)

Official release date is December 7th 2010. Time to save some money and get the special edition.

I play in the Beta, I can say it's going to change everything and things will be like how Vanilla and BC are (mixture of hard game play and new things).

Nope. Start now and get to 80. Those that think going inside Cataclysm raids with their ICC gear, you'll get creamed seconds into the fight. Cata Heroics have a minimum requirements of ilvl 333 blues. Greens will start replacing your gear around levels 83-85 if your end game ICC gear (tier 10.5 and 10.5 heroics). Just about any Cata blues will replace your items. The stats on them are crazy high. Example, crafted blue sword is a level 81 from blacksmithing with crazy passive DPS and top weapon damage of 1.9k and it will replace Shadowmourne, the best 2 hander in Wrath expansion. The next item I have seen is a 2 handed mace level 83 and has a top weapon damage of 2.8k. Do I need to go any further? Basically, high-end blues and crafted (beginner) epics are 2.5x the stats of ICC gear your wearing on each piece. That's what you need to have to start raiding or pvping.

Yes, they've added a lot of nice features in Wrath. Cata will overhaul most features and add very nice textures to them. But what I really love about Cata is combining 10s and 25 man raids together so you don't have to do 10 separately from 25. Both share the same loot and achievements and what not. I can raid a dungeon Once and know that the loot is the same without worrying. I PvP a lot and I enjoy it very much.

We kicked ass yesterday. The first arena match we won we were on Vent. Then in the second arena match Vent crashed and we couldn't log on, so we did a total of 13 matches for 5s. Won 9 and lost 4.

I wonder what Rated BGs will be like. I'll go check it out now.

I played for like a year but eventually got really bored
For me its all about getting the best possible pve gear but that means doing the same raid week after week
I joined a good raiding guild with my housemate but they wanted to raid like ever night wipeing over and over again on the same bosses to clear icc 10 and 25, and its not even that fun doing it, trying to spam the right combinations of buttons to get that little bit of extra dps/agro/healing
In the end its like whats the point, once you have the gear then the only thing to do is the same raids again as that's the only thing worth doing
They need lots of spread out content at the top not just one raid you end up doing
At least there were 12 bosses in icc, i feel sorry for the people who had to do 5 totc bosses over and over again (well that was me at the start but it was just a quick run though as wotlk was nearly out)
