I just started playing this summer, and haven't done any raids yet.  I'm almost at the point where I have to start raiding to get better gear.  I'm definitely still learning but I am decent.  it's hard to know how well your doing when your doing an instance where people are putting up 5 ~6 k dps, and I can only get as high as 3k when i'm doing well. usually about 2 ~ 2.5 k.

The name is Sanatarium.  and I haven't PvP'ed yet either but I hear paladins are monsters at it.  send me a letter in game if you are interested in raiding together.
First thing is don't depend on gear score. That's rubbish shit most end game guilds don't relay on. Second thing, to be a serious raider you need to understand your class before anything else. Do you have the right and required spec(s) for raiding? Do you know what healing/dpsing/tanking is? Have you done ANY raiding at all? (5 mans don't count)

Lastly, I'm going to tell you to visit this website and look for your class. I would not recommend to join the forums at all. They are jerks, elitists and will ban you without warning. Just read the threads about your class. This is where the best of the best hangs out and where everyone goes to learn about their classes and what not. It's all mathematical stuff and some weird crazy ass formulas. They do everything from your lag input (computer, connection) your human response time, the rotation your putting in, execution your perfuming and so on and forth. It's very very deep.

I have been reading material on my class, and feel confident I can raid decently.  I looked at the website and found lots of good material.

Quote
Do you have the right and required spec(s) for raiding?

I checked some builds online and picked the best one.

Quote
Do you know what healing/dpsing/tanking is?

yes, you can't even do any instances with out knowing the differences.

Quote
Have you done ANY raiding at all? (5 mans don't count)

no. I'm trying to find an easy way to get into them, with out having to get into a raid intensive guild.

Refer to the website I mentioned from above. It will help you understand your class a bit more deeper. As blunt as I have to say this, you gotta do some deep researching. I think you've saved yourself a lot of time if you go to Elitist Jerks. I don't know what build you have and I don't know much about other classes other than warriors. Right now, people don't feel like doing any raiding since Cata is less than a month away from release.

Do you play with keyboard only (keyboard user/turner) or do you use the mouse as well? Do you PvP? Even thou' some people don't like PvPing. You cannot fight the fact that PvP players have higher awareness and response time than your regular average raider.

I play with the mouse/keyboard.  but it sad that no one wants to raid right now.    :-\   I guess everyone will want to in a couple of weeks though.  I guess I'll just keep training until then.

Make sure you don't keyboard turn, as in, using a and d to turn around, rather than holding down mouse2 and moving your mouse around.

^ That's very important in WoW.

Do you have DBM and Omen? If you heal, then get addons like HealBot (I use Clique). I'm a heavy addon user. It's the one thing I love about WoW, the ability to customize the hell out of your UI and the many 3rd party addon support it gets.

The name is Sanatarium.  and I haven't PvP'ed yet either but I hear paladins are monsters at it.  send me a letter in game if you are interested in raiding together.
you also need to keep in mind in addition to what was already said that depending on the style of dps you do and how your class deals damage in 5 mans and small runs especially you may see substantially less DPS then other classes  as opposed to what your damage might be in raids where there is aoe or longer boss battles.

Explanation - For instance my DK i have dpsed as pretty much every spec on my dk so its easy for me to explain with this.

DW frost spec(9-12k dps raid bosses) - is a spec that relies heavily on a debuff stacking and then heavy hits and procs happening in the rotation. So in short if something dies in 2 or 3 hits i lose A LOT of dps.

Unholy(9-12k dps raid bosses) - Uses diseases to allow pretty much all my strikes to hit harder, again if things die before i get to my hard hitting strikes my dps goes down the shitter.

---------- IMO for the longest time i put up much better numbers in raid and especially in boss fights with these two specs then i could with Blood but generally did bad in 5 mans unless i put forth a lot of effort - dont know about recently since i havent played in a couple months ----------------------------

Blood - like unholy diseases up = more damage however i can be lazy and ignore that and still hit shit like a truck and hit 2 targets at a clip with one of the most used abilities in my rotation. So in short in 5 mans my DPS looks a lot better a lot easier.
But generally i would be roughly around 8k dps in raid with this spec

Not saying it's bad but.. I just experience the same gameplay as I did in wrath.. the whole new world didn't really get to me. Blizzard fails to surprise me unlike before.

I'm not particularly looking forward to it.   From what I understand - there's some epic dumbing-down that's going down, and it's going to suck.    What REALLY sucks about it - is that all the awesome content that hasn't even been out all that long ... is already going dead.  Bullshit.

I think I should just swap to Starcraft ... or maybe go fishing more often.

lol - had some epic kingslayer mage who kept on wiping us on H bloodqueen.    Why?   Because he had addons.   He had a UI mod that changed his default bars - and the bite was going on slot 1 of bar 1 - - and he couldn't bite.

The guy was something like 22-25k dps before getting mc'd - he'd wipe the whole party in 10 seconds flat.

mgz you just hit 7777 lucky posts! nice numbers lol.

on topic: I don't know about the people hating on Cata expansion, I played the beta and it's 10 x better than Wrath's expansion. It's a mix of Vanilla and BC (hard, gotta work for your shit, monsters hit like a truck, etc). You're not going to be able to enter Heroic 5 mans with your ICC gear. Let alone, you need to be in blue/epics from Cata stuff in order to start raiding. It's not like how you entered Wrath raiding with your BC gear. I like what they've done.

I would of kicked that fucking moron.  If you setup Bartender correctly it should set your mindcontrol bar to Bar 1 or whatever your main one is.

Also, "the Kingslayer" title means nothing.  lol 25k, mages in my guild are doing 30k+

Forgot to add:  The game isn't fucking dead, there's literally no point of raiding for the next couple of weeks because all the gear is worthless.  Unless you're running for Heroic LK 25 for Invincible or Yogg+0 for Mimiron's Head.

^ This.

49+ weeks of the same shit basically, plus the little Halion gap they added which is slice and dice. Few more weeks and then we'll experience a really fucked up restart on gear (your going to look like shit basically which is awesome!) the first two hander blue will replace my heroic Cryptmaker and the second blue will most likely replace my shadowmourne ... :( lvl 81-83 blues are that freaking good.

They're dumbing down in starter game, but endgame is getting a boost again however. For one CC shall matter again, no more pulling entire rooms within a raid and just area nuking it down and still managing to survive as tanks can practically not die, healers have next to infinite mana and DPS is free to pull 50k+ on such mobs.

Next to that the raid bosses are also getting some pretty funky tactics to them, those blizzcon attempts were funny to watch, wipe after wipe after wipe :p.

I heard the healing cost for abilities have been bumped up a lot. Also, I haven't seen a DPS class that can pull 50k per ability with blues or epics yet from the videos I've watched and numbers I have seen. The boss and mobs health and attacks have been boosted to match what we're capable of doing. Basically, the difficulty for a level 85 (exceptional-or-better gear) is still tough/hard.

Yeh that's what I mean, the days of doing what I said as we see now in wotlk raids is over. And HC duns like Drak'Tharon Keep (which you can finish in 2 mob pulls before first boss, AoE spam. boss. 1 mob pull before 2nd boss. boss. 2 mob pulls before 3 boss if you decide to do the raptor. 2 mob pulls before final. final boss) are over. Just gathering big quantities of mobs and nuking without fear of death shall be gone.

It'll be fun to see the first weeks/months of the LFG system though, or pug raiding for that matter. Can see the ragequit level being insane xD.

Do you have any fucking idea how expansions work?

The stats are scaled up, yeah they may seem like a lot now, but that's how it was for BC and WotLK.  The jump from Nax 40 epics to BC greens was pretty retarded, so I wouldn't be complaining now.
