Looking at some of the last threads to be made, much ideas to the use of weapons to fight other creatures have been made. On top of some of the movies I have been watching, it has made me think. Of many objects within a home/work/school, which/what make effective weapons based on actual usage, conceal ability, cost, "inventiveness" etc.?

For instance:

Conventional weapons:
- Katana/swords
- Baseball bat
- Staff/plural
- Knives
- Guns
etc.

Less than conventional: (Usually rarer in use and/or usually somewhat unwieldy to use or high rate of failure predicted)
- Tennis racquets
- Pans
- Broken items to be used as clubs
- Tables
- Chairs
- Umbrellas
- Staplers
- wrenches
- crowbar/tire iron
etc.

"Built"/"Inventive" weapons:
- Cue ball/can of soda pop/ etc. in sock
- "Panty hose powder bombs"
- Paper mache...
etc.

Strange weapons:
- Coins
- Credit cards
- Sharpened fingernails
- Phone books
- Cellphone batteries
etc.

So what other things can you think of for weapons? What other criteria can you think of to classify weapons based on usage or other criteria such as ability to conceal them?

ie: To hurt someone, a phone book or stapler isn't bad. To kill a zombie, a phone book and stapler seems retarded as shit.

ie: A can of pop and a sock seem pretty normal to have. A katana or lead pipe seem a little obvious.

ie: A can of pop to hurt someone is less than a dollar to obtain. A katana is quite pricey.

ie: A tennis racquet is capable of both offense and gives a higher level of defense than most other weapons based on its size.

ie: A tennis racquet will break a hell of a lot sooner than a baseball bat.

ie: Who has a baseball bat in North America? Who has a cricket paddle in India? (Availability)

ie: Requirement of usage of weapons. Physical weapons like katanas and bats need STR. Guns need something like DEX, same for bows and arrows while things like small knives don't need high levels of that.

ie: Environmental factors. How can you use your environment to better improve your usage of your weapons? (give me a break, using a long weapons in an enclosed space isn't easy)

ie: Range of weapons.

Practically anything you can get your hands on is a potential weapon. Here are few to name some.

- Rocks, can be thrown, very effective, easy to use, availability a problem at times
- Keys, easy to use, common item, easy to conceal, effective, short range
- Keyboard, easy to use, common in certain areas, not very effective, break easily, has some range, wireless easier to snatch and heavier, possible to strangle with wired ones
- PC power cord, can be used to both strangle and hit, common in certain areas, has some range, needs some practice, easy to conceal
- A car, needs some training, pricey, very effective, if no keys than needs even more training, needs space, needs distance between the enemy to accelerate
- CD, breaks easily, crack the side and it's a cutting weapon, easy to conceal
- Belt, easy to conceal, some range

Obviously it depends a lot about where you are. A computer class would not have cars available and a parking lot probably doesn't that that many power cords lying around.

The purpose has a direct influence on your weapon's efficiency. Killing, crippling or simply repelling don't have the same requirements. The latter per example can be done by inflicting massive amounts of pain, which can be easily achieved even with quite inefficient tools (car keys, screwdriver, corkscrew ... to name a few).
As for the availability, a sawed off table leg could easily be used the same way you would use a baseball or cricket bat.
Above all, leaving zombies aside, I would say a decent knowledge of human anatomy is a very powerful weapon for it allows maximal efficiency with minimal means involved.

A minor irritant of mine is how easily zombies get their shit kicked sometimes. Flesh don't rot that fast. But it's all for the gory splatter effects so I can't really complain.
I just once had a dream in which zombie flesh was just as tough as real flesh and I was freaking surprised that you actually had to work a bit to bash through the skull.

has anyone ever considered using paper to build weapons? for instance, high compacted paper. Get some wires/thin stick, paper mache it into a baseball bat, make layers of fortification via the use of super strong(pure) glue?

Air Blower + Gems = Gem Blower

Metal Rake + Car Battery = Electric Rake

RC Helicopter + Bowie Knife = Heliblade! XD

Chemistry classroom: Pure Potassium and water because they react violently with each other.
Thus sum potassium and a water gun or water balloons.

IIRC, a very ripe banana can explode with potassium. My chemistry teacher did this but I forgot the proper steps to do so. It was still nice though.

Wires and paper are dangerous. Sharp glass. Knuckles? Gloves with tacks for knuckles? Pens? Pen claws? Things people are allergic of? But you have to know the enemy first for that one.
Something to cut with something acid, like knives and lemon juice? Sounds more like torturing tools so me....

Seen those eps. Seen also the eps where they make harpoons and shit out of paper.

I also recall articles about furniture made out of paper. We take the strength of paper for granted. The shit is powerful if you build it right. I was more along the lines about asking whether or not someone would make a paper mache bat. A cop might laugh his ass off at your bat, but you know that it can really do some damage.........
