Poolsticks are pretty bad for hitting. Breaking them and stabbing is probably your best bet. (I know from experience... I've had one broken over my back before) Getting hit by one hurts for sure, but it probably won't stop someone with determination... or a zombie.
EDIT: Pool balls on the other hand... Would work excellently. They're quite easy to throw and hurt like hell when hit.

plates - fuond in allmost every household and well suplied grocer shop and most of them can break to litle pieces and plates are also great for throwing and smashing.
