A little Help with Seeding.
« on: May 12, 2010, 06:24:02 PM »
I realy hate to post this here because of all the other similar posts, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to Seed a torrent I deleated from my client and then moved the files to a spare HD.

I read the For Begginners thing and I'm posting it here so maybe you can help me understand it a little better.

Official BitTorrent 6
1.Go to the torrent page and download the .torrent file again (make sure you're logged in before downloading, if not the tracker URL will be incorrect).
2.Open the .torrent file in BitTorrent, but do not start it yet (uncheck the "Start Torrent" checkbox).
3.Click on the ". . ." button at the end of the directory name display, and browse to the folder where the files are.
4.In Windows Explorer, make sure the filenames in the folder match the filenames in the torrent filelist.
1.If some/all of the filenames do not match, BitTorrent allows you to relocate them, so as to avoid renaming.
1.In the files tab right click the file and select relocate.
2.Browse to the original file, select it and click save.
3.Repeat the process for all files that have different names.
5.Click "Ok" in the Add Torrent dialog box. The torrent should now appear in your torrent window in stopped state.
6.Right-click on it, and select "Force recheck". BitTorrent will now scan the selected folder for matching files, so if the files are the same and still have the same filenames you should see the progress bar start filling up.
7.Let it scan until it says "Stopped" under the Status column. Then press "Start" to start the torrent proper.
1.If the files are 100% verified it should say "Seeding" under the Status column.
2.If there are missing files, or some of the pieces did not hash properly, BitTorrent will download the missing pieces before putting the torrent in Seeding status.
8.You're done! Now just let the torrent sit and seed.

I'm using using Windows Vista (Because I cant afford anything better) and Bittorrent 6.4. Just explaine this to me a little better so I can hopefully get my ratio up.

What is it you don't understand? Explain that to us a little better.

That "help" is pretty much simple already.

i'll try to explain it a bit better:
you have to read and follow the instructions step by step.

Reading it can maybe be confusing, but doing it is actually pretty easy, I had an issue with it myself last night, but everything is working now.
However I must admit my alcohol consumption at the time was making things more difficult then they needed to be.

3.Click on the ". . ." button at the end of the directory name display, and browse to the folder where the files are.

What button and where? I don't see a button at the end of the directory name display on either Bittorrent nor any of my files

4.In Windows Explorer, make sure the filenames in the folder match the filenames in the torrent filelist.
1.If some/all of the filenames do not match, BitTorrent allows you to relocate them, so as to avoid renaming. How?
1.In the files tab right click the file and select relocate. Once again Where?

5.Click "Ok" in the Add Torrent dialog box. The torrent should now appear in your torrent window in stopped state.

What?

6.Right-click on it, and select "Force recheck". BitTorrent will now scan the selected folder for matching files, so if the files are the same and still have the same filenames you should see the progress bar start filling up.

No clue how to get to this point.

you did step 2 right? you should have a "add new torrent" window open at that point.

4.In Windows Explorer, make sure the filenames in the folder match the filenames in the torrent filelist.
1.If some/all of the filenames do not match, BitTorrent allows you to relocate them, so as to avoid renaming. How?
see quoted part below.

see quoted part above.

5.Click "Ok" in the Add Torrent dialog box. The torrent should now appear in your torrent window in stopped state.

What?
Sorry, but are you just not following the guide? i don't know how to phrase it any less bluntly.

6.Right-click on it, and select "Force recheck". BitTorrent will now scan the selected folder for matching files, so if the files are the same and still have the same filenames you should see the progress bar start filling up.

No clue how to get to this point.

I've never had to do more than double click and the program has done the rest. aside from typing and installing new hardware, components, and the occasional motherboard I know squat about anything on my computer. I've had to learn all this junk by asking questions, gettion shocked or cut or burned, and making lots of mistakes.

I don't have an option to relocate the file when I right click on it.
so what do I do just click Add?

*EDIT* I just realized that I've been opening the torrents in Limewire instead of Bittorrent. DOH! face/palm.

Ok so I still don't have an option to relocate the file when I right Click. so do I just click OK or did I do something wrong again?

Ok. I think I got it to work. If it doesn't then you can look forward to more dumbass questions until I get it right. Otherwise how will I learn?

Damn! I ran into a little snag. could someone email me the SFV file for the [a4e]Witch_Hunter_Robin_ 1-26 torrent? If I can get that file I should be good right?

*EDIT*

Double Damn something went wrong with the other file I wanted to seed Noien. something didnt fully cross over. is there a way to fix that if I can't download the missing bits? Noien is stopped at 98.7% and [a4e]Witch_Hunter_Robin_ 1-26  is stopped at 99.9% cause I dont have the sfv file. I just can't seem to win!

1. This is not your fault, but torrents on BBT shouldn't include SFV files. This one happens to have one, but whatever.

2. Just start the torrent by right-clicking and clicking start. You'll download the missing file (which is almost nothing) and start seeding.

3. Don't post more than once at a time in succession on the forums - people get annoyed. I'm not one of those people, but... it is in the rules, so try to follow them.
