thats right portal is being GIVEN away for free.

you all know how the cake is a lie. well now you can get your own slice of cake for free.

Mac ain't half bad if you get one with the hardware capable of gaming. I have a Macbook Air Laptop with bootcamp Windows 7. Runs okay, but no where near gaming potential. I put steam on the mac and logged in with my secondary account and noticed I had portal which I never had before. I ended up going onto the same laptop with my primary account to get Portal as well.

Question though, is this a permenant game in my library now or is it like those free gift weekends where they allow you to play for a period of time before they remove it from those who haven't purchased it?

I personally already had Portal since I bought the Orange Box some years ago, but it's a nice gift, and Portal is a really fun game. Some of the challenges took me quite a while.

Well sweet deal then, can't say no to a free game. Already downloaded and installed it on my main system. Gotta make sure it's set for my secondary account as well so both don't lose it. First I get into Starcraft 2 Beta 3 weeks ago and now free portal. What else that is awesome and great can happen?

Wow, holy sh... I just found this thread. A crapload of free games including America's Army 3, HL2 DM and Lost Coast, and many others, plus there's a tun of free mods as well. Not sure if these are permenant as well but it sure looks like it. As long as you're logged onto your steam account and click those links, you'll get em added to your games list and start downloading!

There's a weird trick to it I guess. My g/f just had that same problem where she was getting the demo and not the full game even though she has a Geforce. You have to log into your account on a Mac computer in order to unlock the game free for your account plus anything else that was enabled free for those who have a Mac.

I just did that for my girl and she now has Portal on her account. Guess that sucks for those who don't have a Mac, even though Portal is suppose to be free for everyone right now?

If anyone is willing to give me their steam details I'll do it for them, seeing as I have a mac but don't really play anything but console games anyway.
