Looking for a new laptop
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:44:04 PM »
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16834146613

I found this one on newegg for pretty cheap, but was wondering if there was something else I could get under the 1000$ range that's better.

Edit: just found this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157113

Well assuming you are wanting to spend close to the $1000.00 range both of your choices would be find. I would lean more towards the Lenovo only because it has a slightly
better graphics chip. Everything else is the same. Also the price is $100.00 less (oh and I hate HP/Compaq, & Dell).

But on that note Toshiba (which I currently own a nice Toshiba myself) has a rather nice laptop.

For the same price as the Lenovo and it has a similar possibly slightly better graphics chip.

All of which feature the same Core i7 720Qm CPU, 500GB HDD, 4GB DDR3 RAM

I'm not a fan of HP at all... except their business notebooks. Those are sexy and have good build quality.

Don't even think about touching a HP laptop. Sure those things usually have nice power but their software is a piece of crap. If you're ready to format it and do a clean install then I say sure go for them. They're mainly LG inside so I wouldn't go trusting them too much but since we haven't been getting many of the new HPs for repairs so they seem to be lasting well enough.

Lenovos I've got only good experiences. Only complaint would be that their batteries seem to die prematurely.

Never even seen a Toshiba. :P

Because we can!

Toshiba is alright. But nothing amazing. The HP business edition seems different so far from what I've toyed with, totally different feel. Not too overheated and stuff. It's no HP Envy... but meh. But the Envy seems to have heat issues too.

I always liked Toshiba laptops. They run very cool and I never had one that failed on me yet. I still have my Intel Pentium 2 300Mghz 64MB ram satellite pro laptop. I had a HP laptop once and that died on me. I also had an Alienware laptop that died on me as well. So I only get Toshiba laptops. As for netbooks I only get Acer but might go with Alienware new gaming netbook.

I own an HP 8710w Elitebook ... the Elitebook line are very, very nice machines. And sturdy and tough as well. I find I prefer them to Lenovo's and Dell's business machines....

Still, if the OP is gonna go with a Lenovo, best of luck to you. :)

I've been hearing that the lenovo runs pretty hot with the core i7, so I'm also looking for a cheap but nice cooling pad if anyone wants to suggest any

I've found these two cooling pads, but still up for suggestions.
