Personally I use, (or atleast lately) TDK, they cost about $25 USD for 100ct, each one holds about 25 regular length anime episodes (avi format). or 4.7GB.

Any DVDs, maybe TDK or Mitsubishi, and burn at half speed (generally 8x). I've been using Nero. No problems so far.

Kaoru + Aoi + Shiho = Infinity
For video playback: madVR + CCCP 2011-11-11 (use the bundled version of MPC-HC)

Depending where you live somewhere it's still a lot more affordable to buy storage dvds then storage hds...
A good judge of quality is the price... Usually the pricier they are...

For safer burning you should use from 4x to 8x speed like namaiki mentioned.

yup...hdds are very pricey.. I have collected only a few anime torrents..  and my hdd have only a 150gb.. so the best choice for is to buy a good quality dvd..  thanks for the advice...  ;)

I'd use a hard drive. The $/GB ration is more favorable. Use DVDs to story parity data and than put paraity data for the DVD on a drive different from the one the DVD is backing up.

well thats good and well if you just want somewhere to keep your files, but the bonus in using discs is you can take them to a friends house, load them onto another pc or watch them on a TV (dependent on the format) or you can loan out a disc, you cant loan out an entire hard drive quite as simply as a DVD disc...So thats why I keep most of my stuff on a DVD *aswell* as my computer.

This might be useful: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

Don't base your purchase decisions on brand names.

Manufacturers of certain brands of discs differ depending on location. For example, TDK Gold DVDs (both +/-R) sold in my country are made by either of these manufacturers: CMC Magnetics and Taiyo Yuden. Taiyo Yuden produces some of the best discs in the world while CMC Magnetics' quality varies. CMC Magnetics is the same manufacturer of brands like Imation and Memorex (fyi: all three are brands are owned by Imation). Both are sold at about 25 USD per 100 pcs.

Another example are the BenQ discs are recently bought. The discs are sold at about 20 USD per 100 discs. At first I thought the discs were just an ok purchase. When I checked who made those discs, I was in for a big surprise: the discs were made by Mitsubishi Chemicals (Verbatim). This made my purchase a really good deal. I've also thought of the possibility of the discs were fake but the chances of them being one are very slim.

You can buy a USB flash drive for transportation and it would still be cheaper. Or you could buy a portable hard drive. In either case its still cheaper.

then your over doing it for the point i meant to make, u dont need a flash drive when u can generally get a full series on one 25cent disc, there are of course better methods if you wanna mass store ur files, but im talking about organizing per show. also, OP is asking for *DVDs not other stuff so....

Yes, and the issue seems to be a lack of space. I'm saying that its a bad idea to try to store your data on DVDs now. They are more expensive than HDD, and less reliable.

Gotta agree that getting another Hard drive would be more cost efficient and get you more space! However I suggest getting an external enclosure so that you can make the hard drive an external and take it too and from like the other side of the arguement then you have space AND portability. Newegg.com usually has great deals on either Hdds and enclosures OR already external HDDs. Het a 1TB for around $100. Hell I bought a 2TB hdd for $109 this morning.

However if you are going to get DVD-Rs anyhow I recommend Maxells they are cheap and I have never had a problem with them, and they are cheap. $25 for a 100pack, hit up Wal-Mart.com and site to store it for free. Like other people cautioned though, burn at a low speed no matter what you get to ensure a nice copy of the data. I use a burn utility that verifies the data burned as good before it's done.

Hope this helped

You asked what software is recommended so I'll add in my personal preference.

ImgBurn

It usually works very quickly and efficiently and I myself have never had it disappoint or deliver unexpected results. Incredibly user friendly as well.

ill just say what everyone else already said and add one thing DONT PUT THE TOPIC IN ALL FUCKING CAPSLOCK IM PRETTY SURE THERE IS A RULE AGAINST IT FUCK HEAD.

on that note buying a hdd will be much cheaper safer and longer lasting if you simply wish to back your current series up on it and then leave it sit unplugged and static free

This man tells true!

And if you REALY need to store data at DVDs take Verbatims! - Best of all I used.
But then, I spend tons of cash at cd few good years ago, and I want to trow them away but i dont have heart :(
I stoped buying DVDs/CDs. My friend had collection of about 5000 cd with movies few years ago. He burn them, watch few times,
one day he wanted to watch them once more - suprice - they were like 70% of those 5000 corupted thanks to localization he used to store them
- Sunny place near window - after 6m - 12m those cd got corupted :(

Sad but true story, I prefer to buy hdd, fill it with data, plug it out of pc (longer life) and store it in closet :) And remamber YOU can rewrite Hdd any time you want!

im beginning to think that dvds might be a bad idea for storing anime.. guess maybe i should drop this topic and ask what recomendations in choosing hdds.. 1 terra is a bit too much.. mayber less than 500gb is fine... ill use the recomended dvds for temporary storage for the mean time until i save up some money.  :) again thanks for advice ;)
