Unemployed Rant
« on: May 24, 2010, 09:39:46 PM »
Sorry guys but I seriously need a place to vent and I hope perhaps someone can give me some sort of emotional support because I am seriously at the end of my tether here.... With a loan to pay off (which is on a repayment plan yet... if I leave it will mean I'll end up being in trouble with the bank and more)... overdraft I'm barely managing to get sorted out... It leaves me with fuck all money with the limited job seekers allowance... and my car is just left in the car park rotting because I cant afford any parts or materials for maintaining it... I'm just seriously at a loss here... All I want is a full time job... How hard is it really to find?

Now I know some guys here have been off work a lot longer since I've only been off work since September but for me... this feels like a life time... So many bills have come through... I haven't had a decent meal for months now... I was a wreck once before which is why I lost my job... if I become a wreck again... I just don't know what I'm supposed to do if that's the case....

I feel so desperate for work yet I still wonder why I'm finding it so difficult to get any??? I constantly look at places in the paper/job center and word of mouth yet I get nothing... Bah... I don't know...

If you were desperate enough, you wouldn't be bitching. No offense.

If you can't find a McJob, pizza delivery, gas station, landscaping, or random factory job, you're not looking hard enough or you're not *that* desperate.

let me explain then... I have fuck all money... This means aside from expenditures that have already gone out... I have fuck all left for food... after that I have such limited amount for travel. Put it this way.... I only have £12.50 of money to spend a week for food/travel and bills. And regards to your job suggestions all I can say is "location location location" And the fact that I need a full time job to supplement any needs. If I got a part time job for example... I'd be worse off because then I wouldn't get housing benefit nor help with this loan.

As I said I'm at the end of my tether... I really cant do with the patronising...

Totally agreed Relic.

I hate working at KFC,  but it pays the bills. And fast food restaurants/bars/takeaways always have job openings.

Plus, if you can afford internet you're not at the end of your tether. :/

Where are you in the UK btw?

EDIT- You're half an hour from Leeds, and have a car. I'm pretty sure if both me and my dead head sister can find employment in Stoke-on-Trent with no transport of our own then you can find some there.

Maybe I didn't explain my situation properly so screw it... I'm stressed enough as it is I should have reached out on the internet (yeah... a "lol" would be appropriate I guess...)...

You're saying a part job would be more expensive for you than no job? Don't apply for a McJob that's part time then. Get a full time min-wage job. How about turning off your internet for food? That's why I said if you were 'really' desperate, you wouldn't be here posting your angst. I know, because I've had to do just that. And if you've been jobless since September.. bah fuck it... Good luck buddy.

Heheheheh....

Just keep looking for employment and start considering options you might not have before (without going into the realm of illegality, mind you) ... I am sure something will turn up for you.

Best of luck. :)

Just that little paragraph there helped.

I'm pretty sure if I fully explained my situation you guys would then understand but at the moment it's a case of overcoming a brickwall followed by a mountain. I'm sorry for snapping, it's  just such a stressful time right now.

The only advice I can give is that you take WHATEVER work you can. Ask family, friends, neighbors, anyone if they know of a full time position. I know work is hard to find, but sometimes you have to take whatever is available to you to make money. I know a guy who's never had a job for more than a few months. He didn't have a GED, and he refused to work in food, retail, or physical labor. Honestly without at least a GED you don't have much of a choice BUT to do one of those 3. Just because you might not like it, doesn't mean you should never do it. If you are truly desperate for money then you have to do whatever it takes to make it.

And honestly, I really hope you can pull yourself out of this rut. We've all been pinned against the wall at least once in our life, this is when your true character truly shines. Will you give up? Or will you overcome this and make yourself a better person in the process, and hopefully learn a valuable life lesson or 2.

Good luck to you!

cuz your a lazy fucking bitch who doesnt wanna work the easily attained jobs that are available that sound like they would be hard work and are definitively shitty pay. Learn to not whine like a bitch and get a job if you want one.

To be brutally honest, you need to swallow your pride and DO something about it. There are always methods.

#1. You OWN a car. Sell that shit for whatever you can get. Buy a lock and a bike. Transportation with far less costs.
#2. There are ALWAYS jobs available that can pay off the bills. As others have said, fast food, crap contracting, factory work etc. are always available.
#3. If you have ANY luxuries such as internet, those are always methods. Frik, find a way to get free if you need to surf, if you're THAT desperate, you can use internet/tv costs to supplement things. Lose a bill, add a payment amount. It doubles in power.
#4. If you hear nothing at all, did you ever consider you have a shitty resume that isn't about what you put on it but how you put stuff on it? Check for grammar problems, check for spelling errors, check for improper used words like you're, your etc. Also check your cover letter.

I feel for you. My company is going out of business, and I'll be out of a job next month. With so many people looking for work, employers are only offering shit wages that will be less than what I can get on unemployment. Not that I can get those jobs anyway since there are so many people in this town with a ton more experience than me also looking for work.

If I can't find something by the end of the month I'm going to just pack up and head back to Texas and live with my dad again. Hopefully the job market out there is better.

As for "zomgz if you can has internets you have enough money so stfu," I'd seriously have to shoot myself in the face without the internet.

Also, not everyone can just go get a shit minimum wage job. My skill set makes me too good to work there, and they know it. The instant I get a better job offer, I'd be gone. I used to have a shit minimum wage job, and we turned plenty of people away for this very reason.

Not qualified enough to compete with other people in my own field, over qualified to work a shitty job (that would pay less than umeployment anyway). Feels bad, man.

...

I have a 4 year degree in business from Akron University. They have a respected business school.

But no skill set is "too good" when you're desperate enough. I managed a pizza place to support myself when I was laid off. I didn't have a dad or mom to run back too. Now I'm currently in commercial HVAC. Paying bills and making a decent living. Don't limit yourself because you think you're "too good" for something. Or you know what? Do limit yourself. You'll leave jobs open for those of us who want to work. ;)

My friend graduated with honors with an HR degree. Didn't get any good offers she liked. Now, she's working at an airport for a company in control of the airport's food courts. She's not making that much per se, but she's paying bills, and she's steadily moved up the chain. I think she's doing paper work now. Still not an HR job, or anything similar, but at full time hours and close to minimum wage, she's still making more money than bills etc.

Also, jobs that offer minimum wage... no way it's less than unemployment insurance unless you're not getting the hours. (They hire part time only). Not to mention, even if you receive the same amount per month, there's far more advantages with work. For instance, resume. Bleh. w/e. But it doesn't look as bad as sitting on your ass for a year. Second, tax refunds. No need to explain.

And seriously, we're not going, "Ha ha ha, you have no job." We're thinking, "Hmm, that sucks, and here's a bitter pill to swallow. Methods to HELP you."

I'd start buying and selling shit to prop up some of my funds.   Really skimp till I've gotten things sorted out.   Be creative - get some cash - think of stuff while you're sitting around - there's a load of ways to get some $ all over the place ... just need to poke around and find them.

If you've got bankruptcy laws/debt laws and such there in UK - I'd look into them.   See if you can find yourself a consumer advice person, find out how you can get bills in check ( forbearance maybe?   Roll your debt into current and it's like you were never late.  Explain your situation to the collector before it gets screwed. )

But of course, by all means - take care of yourself first.  Screw all the bills - till you get on your feet.   Cut cut cut expenses, etc.   You need home & food first - everything else can wait.   Plus, if the jobs aren't where you are right now ... ever consider bailing from there?

I know if I needed to, I'd high-tail it out of here.   I can get a kick-ass job in the right location, where I am - isn't it.   If I ever needed - I'd relocate.   Consider that.

Shit happens - it's not the end of the world or anything.

Just happened when you weren't prepared.  Bites, but you can pick up some good experiences from the situation ... if you could say that.

As for "zomgz if you can has internets you have enough money so stfu," I'd seriously have to shoot myself in the face without the internet.

Yeah - funny shit happens all over the place.  I stared out with Computer Science, expecting to work in a nice kooshy office - and end up doing order fulfillment with some regular old computer work here and there.  ( Learned a shitload about running an operation, PLUS have some unique computer problems & issuers I've seen - that I would have never ever seen in an office or standard It job. )

As for my office -

It's a beat up old office chair at a desk in a warehouse with a cold-ass concrete floor - big ol steel girders all over the place ... plenty of dust & boxes everywhere. :P   ( ugh, and fucking bugs .. damnit bugs ... we also had a bat die off so there's mosquitoes all over the damn place.  Damn bitch ass mosquitoes ... UGH. )

Not quite what I had in mind when I signed up to be an IT guy way back when.  lol.

Hell - works & keeps me reasonably happy.  I don't care.  ( In other words - know your standards?   That ideal job you were thinking of?   Toss it all out the window.  Do what you can, when you can - all that matters is how much is in your bank account. )

You REALLY cannot find a job? REALLLLLLLLY?
Utter bullshit.
Go to the place you sign on fortnightly.... (I know how it works, I used to sign on.)
And they'll normally have computers in there which will show you all jobs in xx miles from you. Just contact them all.
Or you can get their free news letter and go though them. There's about 500+ jobs in there.
I'm a certified computing professional yet I work as a minicab dispatcher and I do stupid amount of hours a week.
Tesco/Sainsburys/Co-op have a really high turn over, get a nightshift there stacking shelves.
Go to a few employment agencies and give them your CV and say you're willing to do ANYTHING.

If you ain't finding a job, it's because you've got your standards WAY too high. Stop being a whiney fag cos you'll get no sympathy from me.

Even better, drop getting JSA. It's a bigger incentive for you to get working again quickly if you have no free income you lazy bitch.

Another thing you can do is talk to your bank or wherever your loan is at & see if they can adjust your payment due to your current financial state.

As mentioned before, sells things you don't need ... your car (since it is just sitting in a car park), books, CDs, DVDs, games ... Cut expenses ... etc.
