Uh, when we sent our xbox for service - I popped the whole HD off the top before it was sent in.
Plugged the HDD in the new unit, and everything was still there.

I think he wants to transfer his data from the 20GB to a new 250GB elite or w/e, keep his stats but have more room for demos, installing games and shit.
shabutie:
Sounds like he was talking about the DLC stuff.
When you take off your HDD and put it on a different counsel, you have to be connected to xbox LIVE to use your DLC stuff, or else it either A) Doesn't show up, or B) Shows up as a trial/demo
This is because when you make your profile, it 'locks' the licenses to that system and when you pop it on a new system, it doesn't register it as the original. Pretty sure they do it so you don't scam them by downloading a bunch of DLC, switch to a new hard drive/system, and download it all again. Not sure, but that sounds about right :P
But yeah, if you want to keep your saves, just get a flash drive, format it for the 360, copy your stuff onto it, and copy it onto the new hard drive.
(I've spent plenty of time on the xbox.com forums with people saying "Whhaaaa! My dlc don't work!" with the answer always being, "So did you send your xbox in or get a new one?" "Yeah..." "Then do a license transfer, foo!")
~Cheers!

the only problem i have now is they actually sent me back someone elses 360.. so im not sure if reactivating it on the old one then transfering to the new one is the way to go, or just reseting the rights on the new 120 gig is the way to go >_< friggin MS, i hate this bs
I got outa computer gaming to avoid this BS. What the hells gonna happen years down the road when live doesn't exist anymore, are people just totally screwed with games that used DLC? Thats a serious issue since i keep all my old stuff. I can still play my genesis/nes/PS1 junk fine. In that same time frame im worried i'll be screwed when i go to play a 360 game 10 years from now and i cant play my games because it says i must be signed onto non existing xbox live to play my game
