I use CCCP + CoreAVC 2.0

Works flawlessly and allows me to play 1080p on my 5 year old laptop.
AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE 3.2 GHz
Powercolor ATi Radeon HD4870 1GB @ 800/950

What advantages regarding h264 would it have over CCCP?

In terms of H264 decoding, it's pretty much the same, ffdshow and stuff.
But even if I'm using Shark007's, I won't really recommend it to just anybody, the default settings still has plenty of problems.
I'd say go with CCCP.

well for some odd reason shark runs more smoothly and i dont get the lag or a few seconds pause every time i start the eps or chapter
i also like the fact that i can play the episodes in WMP

so far the only downsize is getting the thumbnails to show (really minor) and if i want to change chapters or language i got to exit out of full screen

Usually I'm using Linux so MPlayer. Other wise, I use CCCP with DXVA.

[edit] Oh, I have a 9600 GT video card and when using mplayer I use vdpau.

MPC + CCCP = Win

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

I personally am just not a fan of the interface of MPC, but it's a nifty program I admit.

I liked stripped down U/Is in my media players (MPC, foobar2000) with high functionality.

I like spiffy U/Is for my OSes (Win7) with high functionality and a cute mascot (Madobe Nanami-chan).

... The Manabi sounds started annoying the crap outta me though. I turned off most of them (JAJAAAAAAN). Now it's just mostly silent.

I do like MPC, though. It's really nice and simple, but it has whatever features you need... somewhere in there.

Cute, huh?

I like the simple interface of MPC. As mentioned I use MPlayer most of the time. By MPlayer I mean MPlayer not KMPlayer or GMplayer or some other GUI'd MPlayer, just MPlayer.

For videos I only need my keyboard when playing, and a settings file.

As for music player interfaces, I don't understand why they have gotten so bloated. foobar is very nice, and in Windows thats what I use.

On the subject of Nanami-chan, I haven't gotten tired of her yet. The "chin" is annoying, but only because so many programs seem to close at strange times.

I don't use any codec pack. Just MPC-HC with CoreAVC.
If in the unlikely situation I find myself missing a codec I'll just download that specific codec.

The biggest advantage with Shark007 is the 64 bit stuff. If you don't need those you might as well stick with CCCP for simplicity.

What do you mean by "64 bit stuff"? As in the codecs use 64 bit memory addressing?

Not really, it just makes it work with 64-bit players. Its up to the 64-bit players to do the memory.

Basically, 64-bit codecs for 64-bit media player, and 32-bit codecs for 32-bit media player.

You can run a 32-bit media player on 64-bit windows without any performance penalty.

AFAIK, at the moment 32-bit software still has the upper hand with optimizations and compatibility.

For video playback: madVR + CCCP 2011-11-11 (use the bundled version of MPC-HC)
