Time stopping ability question...
« on: June 04, 2010, 12:43:23 AM »
I couldn't sleep last night cause I was thinking of this... ::)

Let's say I have the ability to stop time in a certain space, if a guy was running and I stopped the time around his leg, will it get stuck or will it get cut off?

Regardless of what will happen I think he'll die cause it will mess with the blood flowing, but what will happen the instant I stop the time around his leg?

Depends on the theory you subscribe to. My theory is it would be left in the block of frozen space-time while the rest of the body continues to move through normal space-time. Being in the future, one would obviously see the leg in the same place unless someone screwed with the leg while it was back in the past; that is to say the leg would be a permanent part of the timeline in that it would hold that position at the exact point in time at which you froze it allowing someone else existing at the same moment of time to alter the condition of the leg (which only existed there because of your power.

Damn you making me curious. Now I won't be able to sleep tonight.

The idea is to go really really fast, time will eventually slow down, but I doubt it'll stop.

as to the original question I agree with Saidin.  And I just thought I'd mention that one of my hobbies for when I'm bored is thinking about what I could do/accomplish if I could control time...the possibilities have the potential to keep me entertained for hours

Really? But there's a differing in theory. Some believe that if time is stopped in a single area, the area is "ghosted". So if you stopped time around a person's leg, they would continue to keep going as if nothing had happened, but the leg would be somewhat "ghosted", transparent... etc.

Sort of like a dimensional thing.

could also simply create a split in space time continuum again depending on what theories you subscribe to and how the time is being stopped.

Kinda feels like this power is useless, now that I can't cut off a guy's leg with it  :-\

You don't even understand that there are many theories of what time actually is. Start there. Grab some caffeine.

Time is relative to how you think it should be.

Explain, por favor. If I thought time should be an apple, would time be an apple?

Amen, but on topic, give it some years and maybe this will be more relevant, who knows. If you're saying that you stop time just around his leg(...?) then you'd think that everything working would stop in his leg, but with a question like this you can't get an exact answer since you're saying you can stop time.
