Another topic reagarding public torrents and seeding.
« on: June 06, 2010, 04:39:04 PM »
Recently I downloaded a public torrent in the meaning of getting my ratio undamaged.
Well i downloaded it and i use the same torrent file with my key.
But the ratio seems to be stuck at infinity?
Why won't the ratio for that one go up?

you ratio for an individual torrent wont go up if you didnt DL it from here while logged in, but your over all ratio / upload amount will go up.

Okay i see why it makes sense somehow haha.
Something divided by 0 always will remain 0.
That means mij ratio cant go up i see.
But you say my overall ratio will go up in time?
Even if it would be my only torrent i have?
Sweet if so.

A little more info would be helpful... What client (uTorrent?), which torrent (this one?: Mobile Suit Gundam [Zeonic-Corps]), does the client connect properly? (in uTorrent the check on bottom bar should be green, otherwise port issues), how long have you seeded it?

If it's the torrent mentioned above, it does work as it appears in your profile. The peer stats are comparatively good (77/15) so a port issue might be plausible. Could be that the peers simply prefer the other seeds, but with 77/15, some should connect, give it a little time (if it is that torrent?)

For most cases, if you see the torrent in your profile, it works as it should.
Otherwise... what message does the tracker announce give you in your client?

I use uTorrent.
Torent is: Mobile Suit Gundam [Zeonic-Corps]
No tracker isues.
Seeding for 1 day now 44 mb up.
Peers do connect to me otherwise the above seeding metioned would't happen.
But in my account stays @ infinity instead of a ratio of 0.002.
That's most of it.

Basically, yes, for example; I had alot of shows DLd b4 I found BakaBT, but since the files are the same as whats hosted in torrents here I am able to seed them here, those shows individual ratio wont show more then equal no matter how much I upload, however, it will go against my over all ratio / upload amount from what I DLd from here after the fact. As long as the files are the same, all you need to do is swap it with the torrent file/tracker from BakaBT and it will attribute what you upload to your acct total.

The ratio will never leave infinity. The tracker displays an infinite ratio for a torrent when the ratio is 1000 or above. Since you have downloaded none of it and are only seeding the torrent has nothing to compare the upload to, hence it just assigns it an infinite ratio.

All seeding still counts.

Global ratio should go up since you are uploading unless you have not downloaded nothing here ever... :P
Ratio on that torrent will not change since it cannot (you downloaded 0) But no worries the total uploaded amount is added to your global upload.
In the end you win because your global ratio will increase since you did not download anything and only uploaded.

... No, try dividing something by zero on your calculator.

Anyway, if you want a different explanation, try this.

You downloaded a torrent with the public tracker. This means that none of those stats are reported under your name to the BakaBT private tracker, and thus your stats remain unchanged.

You next switched this torrent with a private one. Now, since you did not download any data, your "download" remains zero, but you are now seeding data. Therefore, your seed ratio for this particular torrent only, which is seeded/leeched, is infinite because the denominator is zero. And since you should never expect to have to download any more data on this torrent, the seed ratio for this torrent should always be infinite.

Now, your global ratio is currently 0.074. This is something you expect to go up while you seed without leeching anything. It is not an average of all your seed ratios, it is simply your total amount of seeded data divided by your total amount of leeched data, which is listed next to the green U and red D on the BakaBT pages while you are logged in.

Tl;dr the data you downloaded on that torrent isn't recorded but what you upload is.
