Ive heard they are making a new mmo, in which there are no levels.

Does that mean there is no grind? only end game?

anyone have any info? Ive tried googling, but theres so much info on it, its hard to find relevent stuff, if that makes sense.

All I know about it is they're taking opt-ins for the beta (which isn't out yet! Still in alpha I think)

and I have the OST

you won't find information because of C&D notices sent out to sites faster than Funimation C&D's (although I did see a torrent for FFXIV related content on demonoid that is still up). Testers are under a NDA so they can't even state they're in. I also opted-in but I opted in on day 1 back in November. By no levels, they mean no levels like in WOW I think. Who knows about end-game and amount of grinding. Rumours are that there have been multiple waves of testers added- wave 1 in early March, and the most recent wave being on the 2nd

BETA sign-up has been up since December, I think. I'm not signing up for it.

I'm not sure about it yet. I have difficulties understanding how they'll move away from grinding, even if there's "no levels." Square Enix is Japanese, after all. I have my eyes set on a different MMO at the moment, which also has no levels. It's mainly PvP and RP driven, and while there is PvE, it's pretty much a niche because people don't have a reason to stay online 24/7.

sounds to me more like the introduction of the endless grind. now instead of leveling up and gaining skills in the process you have to train every skill individually.

not to mention you facilitate the lack of physical levels with more levels of gear and the possibility of proficiency or training while wearing specific gear or equipment

I really want to look forward to this game, but I think the general buzz is that the game looks pretty damn boring.

I was hoping they would learn lessons from other MMOs that have come out since FF11, but it seems they only looked at there own game when making FF14 and I don't think that'll be enough.

Still willing to give the beta a whirl, or at least watch some streams!

Problem is, back when I signed up, I had a good video card which since failed, and I was forced to buy a random piece of crap since I'm broke - I don't even know if I'm going to be able to run the game. Oh well.

I got into the Beta

The fun start's tomorrow and I'm well chuffed ^^

It's just Beta, but judging by what I've seen from it so far it'll be swell to get an insight into the new character progression mechanics aswell as the new combat system.

Big FFXI fan here, FFXIV is definitely gonna be my next big time-sink. I haven't played a proper time-waster for like half a year now...

Well, i've not heard anything from them, so I'd assume that I haven't made it into the beta, I guess i'll have to stick to reviews/videos and word of mouth to hear what it is like.

Gratz, mate

Have you been able to log into the beta page and download the installer yet?

I get the following message:
"You could not log in because the service account in question is not registered.
If you would like to log in to the service, please log in to the Square Enix Account Management System and register the service account."

I can log in normally into the control panel however using https://dev-eu.ffxiv.com/ doesn't work for me. I'm hoping it's due to the accounts not being activated yet, they did write that they're starting tomorrow...

The Beta Test Site is scheduled to be made available at some time
on Tuesday, July 13, 2010.

^that will be why.
