Am in the beta aswell

We would first like to express our appreciation for your interest in
FINAL FANTASY XIV, and thank you for your application. It is our
pleasure to inform you that you have been selected for the role of
FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Tester.

Gratz, mate :)

Have you been able to log into the beta page and download the installer yet?

I get the following message:
"You could not log in because the service account in question is not registered.
If you would like to log in to the service, please log in to the Square Enix Account Management System and register the service account."

I can log in normally into the control panel however using https://dev-eu.ffxiv.com/ doesn't work for me. I'm hoping it's due to the accounts not being activated yet, they did write that they're starting tomorrow...
Everything working for me btw, downloading now

how bad is the pc interface? I heard playing it without a controller is really a pain. How do you feel about it? Also is the game still fun even if the interface is bad? Or do you think it would be better to wait for like the ps3 port and play on a controller.

You can connect a controller to a PC and get better graphics. Or do they not support that control scheme?

I'm currently DLing patches, but it's going extremely slow...
Any idea how to increase DL performance?

Yeah I'm at 65,9% and a DL speed between 30-100kbit/s which is very slow >_> and that's 1/7 patches....
Friend of mine managed to get 400kbit/s and then got stuck on 97,6% when the DL speed dropped down to 0.

EDIT: We both decided to go look elsewhere to download the patches and found a site which you can download them quite fast.
PM me if you want any details or just google for it.
(Reminder, might be a bit slow on checking my forum account so PMing the BBT account instead is smarter since I notice if I've gotten mail rather quick there)

BTW regarding the patches: they are .torrents in a metainfo folder inside my documents.  Tracker doesn't work but still provides peers.  Might be faster to dl in utorrent

Found a DDL that I used, 660kbit/s and my friend had 2,6mb.
Will send link on PM request, won't post here.

Even if you Utorrent it, usual DL speed is tops 150kbit/s still for most people.

I had 600kB/s+ when I used the torrent file in Vuze to download it. So it depends on which peers you get. :)

Also, I don't see how this is against forum rules:

Edit

Anybody know a command to see FPS? It is kind of hard to find the proper settings without that... My first settings were too low, my next too high, but by how much, no clue.

Installed, patched. Created char (that was fun), played tutorial. Uninstalled. Very illogical control scheme for the conjurer, at least on mouse/keyboard.

Edit, I can expand a bit on what I disliked:

No way to change major graphics options in-game.
Having to use a third party add-on/program to see FPS, that along with poor graphics settings in-game made it hard to fine tune graphics.
The game felt clunky in the controls. Enter not going into chat being just an example.

Basically, bad first impression, no reason to play it. ^^

I liked overall art direction and emotications. Didn't find anything else I liked.

Tutorial? Was there one?

Kay good that the link is up though :>

Very disappointed in the windowed mode view only + not able to resize the window even...
I actually had to delete my first character I created because I got stuck at the starting place since I had to close down FFXIV due to me tabbing away during a load session making the game to freeze on loading screen. This made me jump back a bit inside the game and the event I already had gone through was gone and no other way to get out (since you just get teleported back to the mission area, which for me didn't have any mission left to do).
Game is very buggy still, though I won't call it bad until I've played it a bit.

Though I find spelling mistakes funny and there are still some words not translated in to english from japanese yet.

Nitcher, that first mission is kinda a tutorial.

You can get full screen if you go into the config exe outside of the game. In-game you can't change it.

have been playing for a couple of days now, unfortunately it hangs on me  >:(
people say things but the larger textbox is blank; therefore frozen. but i play as long as I can without talking to people and I DO like it.
problem is I can't do graphical changes ingame and other things other people have said, but the interface is... alright, not good, just alright.
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.
