MAL removes Show All functionality
« on: June 12, 2010, 09:46:56 PM »
Well, apparently MyAnimeList decided to remove the Show All functionality. What do you think?

Basically, now you can't view your entire list on one page, it will only show one section at a time. And if a section has more than 200 entries then it will have pages as well...

Personally, I'm pretty upset. I use MAL for organizing all my anime stuff... Having all my stuff on one page is also the only reason I used MAL. So, now it's pretty much useless to me.

Unfortunately... it was the only site that could show your entire list to begin with. So, there's not really any alternative. Very sad day indeed...

I guess the load on the server became too much. However, MAL was not the only site with that feature. ANN can do it as well - example. You can only view one section of someone else's list, but if you set up your own list, you can see your Plan to Watch, Watching, Completed, and Dropped sections in full.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

I don't mind them breaking it up into the various categories, but capping the amount listed at 200 is what bugs me. I want to see everything that I've watched on one page, tyvm.

I don't mind the cap. Sure text loads faster than images, but the matter that I prefer not to scroll down a long list just to see all the anime listed on someone's pages is ridiculous. I'd rather it limit somewhere. To help people who don't want to keep clicking page numbers, they can add alphabetical listings or have autoload like on Sankaku's Imageboard Channel where it'll only load the next bits if you scroll down to the end.
There's nothing here, because I'm too lazy to put something here.

I for one don't like this at all. What was wrong with what they had before? :(

Any reason why they did that? WTF... this whole week my dad was fixing stuff that wasn't broken and thus breaking them and now this?. MAL was convenient with the one page summary...

That would be my guess as well.

Ehm... You guys don't need to guess: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=218454

Quote from: Xinil
I’ve just pushed out an update that creates pagination on user’s anime and manga lists. Each list will contain no more than 200 entries per page. The majority of users have less than 200 entries per each of their status options, and I believe this will help lessen our server load when huge lists are viewed (lists with 1000+ entries would take forever to display).

I’ve also included a couple other minor bug fixes in the update.

This has been a long and tedious project. Please let me know via this forum post if there are any bugs or problems you encounter with the pagination.

Also, now that this is finally complete I can start working on other notable bugs and issues throughout MAL.

Edit: if you can't see pagination, and you have >200 entries on a status, you're probably hiding it in your CSS (.header_title). Because of this, I'm thinking of moving the pagination info up to the top bar. Discuss?

I was rather surprised by it when I went to update something today, and it automatically shows your "watching" list. I did notice today that the site lag seemed improved, and that will be worth it once I get used to the change.

I liked the ability to see everything but I understand why they changed it. Its not too bad. Just means I can change my list style a bit to suit the space on my list.

As usual AniDB is years ahead in terms of development :)

This was possible with AniDB for many, many years, but they capped it to 250 entries 3 years ago because of the same reason. I was pretty upset too at the time, but I guess it wasn't the whole world.

I'll get used to it, and I'm sure many other people will too, especially if they have no choice, but I liked the idea to see all my entires in each category in one page, so it's still somewhat of an annoyance to me.

That didn't last long thankfully. Too many people prefer it the old way, I am glad they listened.
