E3 2010
« on: June 14, 2010, 04:10:02 PM »
E3 today and tomorrow.

Live:
Microsoft @ Monday 10:30 AM PDT / 7:30 PM CET / 2:30 AM JST
Nintendo @ Tuesday 9:00 AM PDT / 6:00 PM CET / 1:00 AM JST
Sony @ Tuesday 12:00 PM PDT / 9:00 PM CET / 4:00 AM JST

I'm ignoring Ubi and EA completely. They should quit the gaming industry already.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss E3 2010 in general, and games/features you might look forward to, etc. If you wish to discuss a specific game in-depth, you can make a new thread for it.

Edit: GameSpot seems to be heavily overloaded, but YouTube also streams live here. I think the GameSpot links will work for those not watching live though.

So I missed the beginning of the Microsoft one.  Came in around when they were talking about the phones / video chat / talking to your xbox.

I was really unimpressed...  Kinetic still looks gimmicky as hell and I don't care about half the stuff they're putting on it (I don't have a tv for a reason damnit!)

Let's see where Sony and Nintendo go.  I'm also going to keep my eyes on EA / Ubisoft for the lack of anything else to do ^_^.  Maybe they'll announce some interesting games or something.

EDIT: Oh! And the new 360 model looks like a PS3 XD

I never watch shows like E3, they are usually pointless. They could get just as good impact (for me) by doing the press releases when it was time instead of clumping them up. You never know if something shown there will be completed or if they have more things that are on the horizon but not ready to show...

As for games they had Call of Duty: Black Ops, Halo: Reach, Fable III, and... uh... yeah. I think there was a Crytek developed 300-like thing as well, but not sure what exactly that was.

Most of the time went to their Kinect (Connect), which is basically an improved copy of what the Wii has been doing. As a tech, I'd say it's impressive, but it's not really how I envision using an interface or play games. In short: It's useless to me (from what their demo showed). Also, they dared to put 10 minutes of sports (ESPN) in my gaming expo. I guess that's only for the US.

The new console looked nice, and hoping that it doesn't have any red rings, I'd want one.

I really hate the Wii.  Fun system, but its already begun affecting the other 2 companies.  All the Kinect garbage makes me wanna puke.  I wonder how many games Microsoft could have made if they didn't mess with this casual crap.

Honestly, if Sony shows me something half way interesting, I might just go trade in all my 360 crap and get me a PS3...  (not like I use my 360 anymore anyways...)

Well, Nintendo's conference wasn't too much. Though I like the looks of Epic Mickey and Metroid, as well as Golden Sun for DS, they've been announced long ago. Zelda looked like it had some issues that will probably be ironed out. They blamed wireless interference anyhow. People complained about input delay for the sword slashes, but I don't think it was. It seemed more like it reacted only after the move had been done, so it knew what to do (which effectively feels like lag).

3DS is as I expected. Hopefully, the graphics are great, since it's their next generation hand-held. Other than that, their method of 3D is already possible on the current DS with camera.

What I was most excited about was the new Donkey Kong. I haven't heard anything of it before, and it looks like the true Donkey Kong 4. It looks great, and I hope they stick to the format.

I'd like to congratulate Nintendo after today.  After 4 years, they finally decided to focus on actual games that their gamers (not casuals) want. >_>

I agree.  Their Conference is so far the best one by far.

I've watched a good amount of the live footage for both days and besides the few games the you know will impress I'd prefer just a recap video on youtube of the events. Ubisoft, well I didn't watch it but I heard it was boring, only Assassin's Creed and Ghost Recon were the good ones people said.

Sony had a boring presentation, and they went on and on about move after talking for a bit too long about their 3D TVs which won't be a big hit anyway.

However, they did have a large arsenal of games to promote, and it looks promising overall. Little Big Planet 2 still looks nice, and a new epic Twisted Metal, fuck year!

I thought Sony's was the best, because once they got past the 3D / Move / PSP bullshit, they just started showing games. (Kinda the reason why I own a video game counsel and was watching the E3 press conferences... I like games! ^_^)

(Oh! Sony also kinda was being a tease early on.  They kept talking about the PS2 and its 10 year anniversary, and I started hoping they'd announce they'd bring back backwards compatibility :'()

I've never really been into the Nintendo franchises and Microsoft spend most of their time talking about Kinetic and their super cool new television options (lol).  (Again, I haven't watched the beginning of the MS one yet, but I'm not holding my breath as CoD / Halo / Gears don't really interest me anymore.)

But yeah!  TWISTED FUCKING METAL!

Nintendo certainly had the best E3 showing of the 3, as both Sony and Microsoft went the casual route....which seems completely backwards.  Sony had the potential to be better with its arsenal of games coming, but it was a big disappointment IMO.  Although seeing Gabe Newell eat his words was pretty funny.  Also Kevin Butler rules, that is all.

I haven't watched any conferences of the E3 (probably won't) but what you're all saying sounds awefully like Sony and MS trying to catch up first in the casual sector while Nintendo has already done that and is moving on/back to its "old" gamers.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

More so Microsoft than Sony.  Obviously both were, but Most of Microsoft's conference involved showing off the casual Kinect games while Sony's focused on a little of both for the Move.

IMO: Nintendo > Sony > EA > Ubisoft > Microsoft

That's the thing though...  It didn't really feel like Sony spent a lot of the time on the Move...

They had, what? 2 games presented with it (Sorcery and Tiger Woods iirc) showed a trailer for it, said a bunch of current games are going to have patches for it, then went on to their clusterfuck of game trailers (Which is really all I care about...).

Was nothing like MS, where they spend more than half their fucking time talking about how Kinetic is the future, showing bleh games.

Granted...  Nintendo had Warren Spector ^_^ (Good to see his influence is still out there...  Everytime he kept talking about the different paths in Micky, I kept thinking Deus Ex!)

Yeah. Sony was yawn, too much 3D!! Nintendo was all win, Microsoft... I don't even want to say, theyre usual selfs. It's the exact opposite of the last E3, sony was amazing last time, and Nintendo was pretty bad.

usually I skip some e3 out, but this time I've seen everything so far and I leik most of it, too much 3D from sony though
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.
