VSFilter disables aero :(
« on: June 16, 2010, 01:36:54 AM »
Hi!

I'm using KMPlayer and I added VSFilter to the custom filter manager. The thing is, whenever I play a video and VSfilter opens and stays in the system tray, Windows disables aero and reverts to the basic theme. If I delete it from the filter manager aero never turns off. What's the problem with aero and VSFilter? It's no big deal, but I would like to still have aero on when using VSFilter. I had to switch to KMPlayer because MPC-HC doesn't have an interface to use with a remote control. It's difficult to see the tiny little windows letters from 7-8 feet away :D. KMPlayer is nice, but its subtitle render doesn't show some SSA/ASS effects properly (the karaoke effect is a bit choppy and the fade effect leaves a weird shadow to the font). VSFilter is fine, except for that weird comparability with aero :(. VSFilter version is 2.39 (06/24/2009). Current setup is: KMPlayer with Haali Media Splitter, CoreAVC and VSFilter. OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

vsfilter? kmplayer? These two together will not show much cohesion, try MPCHC, hell, MPCHC's own internal subs renderer is more efficient.

:P

Anyway, I don't know what happened, I reinstalled KMPlayer and VSFilter (same versions as before), configured carefully the zillons of options KMplayer has, and now everything is running good, including aero and VSFilter. Plus, from starting KMPlayer to shutting down the PC, I can control everything with the remote ;D. And the subs with VSFilter are shown the same as with MPC-HC. Tried several files with karaoke and other effects and they are all properly rendered :3

This is what I needed, something with big letters where I can access most of the player functions:

As far as I know MPC-HC doesn't have anything like that :(

If the video renderer is set as Overlay, Aero will be disabled.
Kaoru + Aoi + Shiho = Infinity
For video playback: madVR + CCCP 2011-11-11 (use the bundled version of MPC-HC)

Maybe it was that, now I have the subs in VMR Surface and switched the render to EVR C/A (is that the best render for W7?)

The best renderer is whatever looks best to you. For me, generally it's MPC-HC's EVR Custom Presenter because of the code for frame handling, or MadVR because it looks awesome, but I haven't quite figured out how to configure it yet.
