GPU getting 200+ Fahrenheit Dangerous?
Sosseres:
Doesn't seem like you have a GPU fan. So it is most likely passive cooling on that card. Thus your original idea might be the best, I am not sure though since that was about all the useful computer knowledge I have. :P

It's most likely an HSF shared by both the GPU and CPU, just like on most laptops.
Remove it, clean it thoroughly, remove the old thermal grease/pads, put some good thermal grease on both chips, and then reinstall the HSF. If that doesn't help, you're pretty much SOL.

HP did a great job making it so opening this laptop is a pain in the rump, >>
1000mAh:
I'm just interested, that why use laptops?? 'cause I've seen that many people here on BakaBT uses laptops (not all, and I don't hate laptops are useful in some cases.) ok, they can be carryed around and all, but they warm more & faster than normal computer. and laptops are harder to maintain than computers... (I mean maintaining correctly) I trust my computer (I would just need few new parts, but...). My computer hasn't never been 50C... and I also use laptop (rarely, we have got 2 computers, I don't use the word computer for laptop :P) but from my opinion it's far worse than computer... I'm not too good with using computers or the names of the parts, meh... I'm some what nobody when it comes to computers but I got the proper guideline how to maintain my computer, and the professional who fixed my moms computer said when I asked him about watching anime/movies on laptop, that you shouldn't watch more than max 4 hours whitout brakes for the laptop, it will start over heating (normail laptop, that is made about year 2008). I didn't mean to offend anyperson outthere, so I'm sorry if I did. and of course Louise if you use laptop it can't ventilate as well as computer so of course the GPU will over heat lot faster, but the whole thing 'cause there relly isn't room to ventilate. well I haven't allowed my computer ever to getover 60C... I shut it down for 3-4 hours if it is over that... but well if I keep my computer on over 10 hours it will be over 50C then I start cheking it's temperature reguraly. and ...

It IS on a cooling pad D: 91C? it was like... 118c...

...get a new laptop and treat it with care, keep it cool :P and I'm not meaning to be rude, this is my opinion 8) 'cause asyou can obviously see I favor computers ;D but over heating those laptops isn't doing a favor for you.
btw... this is my 200 post ...and longest overall...
