Use too much water, then once it is done pour out the remaining water. That way it doesn't burn.

The sticky kinds are harder though, they use up a lot of water and getting them just as sticky as you want but not too sticky is hard if you use the too much water way.

Rice is fucking easy to cook.  The quick and dirty method for those of us coming home from the daily grind - 1.5 : 1 water to rice - bring to rolling boil while stirring to keep the rice from clumping - cover pot and turn heat to about 1/3rd for a minute or so - turn heat down as low as it can go for about 15 minutes - uncover and serve.

If you've got the time and can find a cheap fine wire mesh colander, try it this way. Thoroughly rinse the rice and then submerse it in cold water overnight.  Strain it the next morning in the mesh colander.  Boil water in the bottom section of a two part steamer and place the colander in the top section and cover it for 20 - 25 minutes while it steams.

To get super sticky rice, I use 'short grain' white rice (not that instant crap) and I just quick rinse them. No soaking, the starches (white stuff) that provide the super sticky power will get soaked off into the water if you let them soak.

I'm much more fond of restaurants than cooking.  But I do spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen (don't you say a word Enzie).  I really want to make my famous chicken enchilada soup soon... too lazy to cook now, tho.  *decides on a restaurant* :D

How is it even possible to burn rice?
Don't you normally boil it in water?

It is actually quite difficult to cook rice properly (my experience). You need a teflon coated pot for starters :)

You can only heat soup in that pot Jarudin  :D

yeah i have always found rice to be an absolute bitch to cook.   the last time i tried i actually had to toss out the pot.    >:(

i need to invest in a rice cooker.  anyway Jarudin, i give you major props for preparing that yourself.   i would just go to the finest japanese joint.   ultra-ultra picky on sushi.

i'm more of a pasta guy anyway.  :)

Mmmmm.... makizushi!!!

Hey, where's the wasabi?!

Yes, a rice cooker can be your very good friend.  No need to watch the pot.  No need to deal with rice welded to the bottom of the pot.  Very nice appliance to have.

O.O!!! There is something like "instant rice"?
And here I was thinking rice is already quite "instant" to make, long live rice cookers XD
