Seeding issues...
« on: June 24, 2010, 12:22:32 AM »
Hi, I'm newer to the whole 'torrent thing'...
Uhh... I want to seed and such so I don't get banned but... I also want to download more after I finish watching. So if I delete the file but keep the .torrent file will it still seed or will it not work? I mean, my computer doesn';t have enough space and I have no money for a external hard drive so I just wanna know if I can seed without the watchable files but with just the .torrent files.

No. If you delete the video files, it will not seed. The torrent file is only a file which breaks the video files into smaller parts so people can download it more easily on the internet. It does not contain any actual information about the true files itself.

Oh... so then there's nothing I can do to seed and keep downloading...? Would it be ok if every time I download, I just seed that file while I have it, then when I delete and download, seed the new one or would that cause me to get warned? I mean, sometimes I finish an anime not long after I get it... would that work or not?

Only seeding while you are downloading and watching a series probably wont work because of the seeder to leecher ratio we have here at BakaBT. There are usually alot more people seeding a torrent then there are people downloading that torrent. You'll want to keep seeding until your ratio is roughly .3, just to be safe.
I’m in your noun, verb-ing your related noun.

Ahh, okay, I see. This is actually kinda fun~ Gives me something to do. I'm searching for bonus/[f] anime so I can get it to a stable rate-ish which helps me check out new anime I haven't heard of (Like Gakuen Heaven<3 I love shounen-ai) Thanks~ Now I know, and I'm glad I found out before I got warned x:

Start saving your money... If you are only uploading data while downloading and after watching, like KyraMaverick said, you will likely not seed nearly enough to get a good ratio. Also, it's good practice to keep your ratio at 1.0 or higher, and never let it drop below 0.5.

Also, a bonus torrent will not necessarily let you upload fast, as they are generally less popular. If you can nab the torrent and it keeps its bonus status, though, you can trade bonus points for upload credit.
